This position will be part of Advisor Services Technology at Schwab and we will focus on increasing quality through end to end testing, reducing time to market and increasing efficiency. What you are good at

We are looking for a talented Test Environment Engineer to join the Advisor Services Technology team to support the test environments and help deliver advisor facing interactive web applications . The Test Environment Engineer works at the highest systems level to provide advice and direction to users, management and cross functional teams for systems that are complex in nature. Evaluates new technologies and develops departmental standard practices and is able to engineer platform upgrades and large-scale system integrations. Is recognized as a technical and team leader within the department and organization, with emphasis on the development and test environments. Has the ability to demonstrate breadth of knowledge across multiple areas of information technology. The candidate may be a key team member on strategic or enterprise-wide technology projects. The candidate will ensure all tickets are answered and responded to in a timely manner.
  • Oversee and provide support in the operation and management of development and test environments including services, servers, and related components to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications
  • Work with and manage a global resource model
  • Monitoring of support queues and alert tools
  • Create problem tickets, process tickets and manage ticket queue
  • Coordinate system events and outages within a matrixed organization
  • Create System Run Books, process & procedure documentation
  • Update knowledge base and create and modify system run books defining day-to-day support, maintenance and troubleshooting of the infrastructure
  • Perform analysis of existing environments and produce detailed metrics and trend analysis
  • Recommend and implement changes and improvements to current processes, policies, and environment

What you have

  • Strong understanding of networking, infrastructure and client side architectures, software lifecycle, and system design
  • At least 5 to 7 years of experience in technology engineering
  • Experience working with and/or managing a global resource model
  • Extensive Systems Engineering experience within e-commerce or financial services industry
  • Extensive experience with Application and Software Development Lifecycles
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and processes
  • Analytical skills - Perform analysis of existing environments
  • Experience monitoring and forecasting of system/application capacity
  • Extensive knowledge of testing strategies
  • Extensive experience coordinating system events
  • Extensive experience creating System Run Books, defining day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting knowledgebase of the infrastructure
  • Experience establishing and defining automated system installation/configuration procedures
  • Ability to resolve issues In a timely manner
  • Ability to prioritize workload in an efficient manner
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently with minimal error and guidance
  • Sense of urgency and commitment to providing the best support possible to both internal and external clients
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of associates in the organization well as solid facilitation skills
  • Must be able to act in a Subject Matter Expert (SME) role for various projects and initiatives

  • Virtual Center, ESX and VMware management and troubleshooting
  • Tibco, Tuxedo (or equivalent middleware applications) troubleshooting
  • JBoss, WebSphere and TomCat

  • MS-SQL, Oracle, DB2 UDB, Postgres and Cache databases
  • Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012 OS troubleshooting
  • LINUX (SLES9, 10, 11, RedHat), Solaris OS troubleshooting
  • Load balancing
  • VMWare and Virtual Center
  • Application server support
  • Communication protocols (TCP/IP etc.)
  • MS-IIS, WebSphere, TomCat, JBoss web application servers
  • Service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • Enterprise service bus and related middleware messaging infrastructure
