New York Life is seeking an application developer to support and manage our line-of-business reporting needs from an end-user-perspective within our Investments Technology group. The role will additionally act as a technology advisor for new business onboarding including bringing in additional data sources into Investment Datawarehouse, infrastructure upgrades and corporate mandates that could impact business systems or functions.

The Application Developer will supervise developers to provide solid design oversight for new projects and break/fix and code modification, manage and engage with vendors, work within a global delivery model, and ensure actions are appropriately prioritized and assigned to the development teams to address identified problems and ensure on-time resolution.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Implementing large scale project in the Investment Datawarehouse domain with special focus to the data delivery and reporting
  • Experience working with multiple stake holders to build consensus and path forward in the technical design
  • Analyze system requirements and design migration methods for existing reports to new Data warehousing platform
  • Coordinate with the Data Science team to identify future needs and craft requirements to move business forward
  • Troubleshoot performance issues in data extracts and reporting tools
  • Evaluate and ensure the required application production support is sufficiently staffed and trained for data delivery and reporting aspects of the data warehouse platform
  • Triage data issues and evaluate the root cause identified by the production support team
  • Gathering and analyzing system requirements
  • Collaborates with the Vendor Onsite Lead
  • Lead onshore and offshore consultants in getting the work done
  • Participate and influence data governance where stake holders from multiple LOBs congregate and drive best practices and data consistency within NYL

Experience
  • 11-15+ years of overall experience
  • Domain knowledge in Mutual Fund Equities/ETF
  • Knowledge in Fixed Income accounting dataset reporting from Datawarehouse
  • In-depth understanding of database modeling and DBMS principles
  • Working knowledge with the business client reporting teams
  • Proven analytical skills and problem-solving attitudes
  • Problem solving and innovation required in addressing challenges that arise in the projects
  • Financial services industry experience preferred

Required Skills
  • Experience building and supporting Data warehouses or Data lakes or BigData platforms
  • Full stack developer with vast experience in taking concepts and turning them into finished products using relational databases or data stores, APIs, quality assurance and security aspects of application development by understanding business needs
  • Experience with relational databases such as MSSQL and/or Oracle required
  • Familiarity with Reporting packages such as Business Objects, Tableau or Qlik and willingness to learn and utilize these tools as required to meet business goals
  • Experience in development languages such as Python/Java/.Net. and sound understanding of SOA and Object-oriented-programming
  • Exposure to agile working environments
  • Preferred experience in Linux/UNIX operating system
  • Preferred working knowledge in AWS cloud and deploying applications/platforms

Education
  • College Graduate Degree preferred, or in lieu of a degree, will consider qualified candidates that have the required skills and work experience
