Workplace Flexibility Program: We're proud to support our employees in a working approach that allows you to bring your best self to work - whether that's in the office or remote.

  • Most Schwabbies have the opportunity to voluntarily work in the office or at home based on their preference
  • When the firm is ready to fully return to the office, employees will have the flexibility of a hybrid work environment, spending some time working remote and some time in the office.
  • Employees and managers can discuss and decide what works best for them, with additional flexibility available based on their role, business needs, and individual circumstances.

Subject to change as Schwab is continually evaluating the current environment in order to best care for the safety and well-being of our employees.

Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) engineering is a fast-growing organization within Schwab Technology Services and aligned to support the technology needs of Schwab Asset Management (SAM), Investor Advice Solutions (IAS), the Schwab Center for Financial Research (SCFR), and Third-Party Platform teams.

As a seasoned, hands-on Senior Manager of Software Development Engineering, you will manage one or more IAS Software Engineering delivery teams and enable IAS to achieve consistent, predictable, high-quality delivery by implementing best practices, tools, metrics, automation frameworks, and oversight in the areas of software development and testing. You'll serve as a strong and versatile hands-on technical leader. You will deliver high-quality solutions that meet business objectives in a flexible, collaborative, and rapidly changing environment.

You will play a critical role in supporting key stakeholders across the Investor Advice Solutions organization which is focused on high-net worth and ultra-high net worth retail investors. Supported business functions include Schwab Wealth Advisory, Inc. (SWAI), the Investor Solutions Group (ISG), and Specialty Wealth Consulting (SWC).

  • Implement software development best practices as the go-to development partner between principals and the scrum team members
  • Coach team members to aid in identifying and achieving their personal and professional development goals
  • Manage talent acquisition by identifying resource needs, interviewing candidates, and onboarding new engineers and analysts
  • Provide project execution transparency and communicate with senior management and stakeholders on application and project status, risks, and issues; create reporting artifacts such as burn-down charts, project roadmaps with key milestones, and status reports

What you have

  • A university degree or equivalent experience
  • 12+ years of experience in software development and management roles
  • 5+ years of experience with running development and testing for large, complex projects with cross-functional dependencies
  • Prior wealth management experience or financial experience is desirable
  • Experience working with team members in different geographical locations
  • Experience fostering a culture of innovation
  • Experience designing and building cloud-ready, highly scalable software
  • Strong knowledge of system integration design patterns and experience in working on large scale integration projects, ideally including data fabrics or equivalent
  • Experience in implementing software development engineering best practices, such as DevOps practices, continuous integration, continuous deployment, lean methodologies, Scrum, and Kanban
  • Hands-on experience coding in Java or other OOP languages, building REST based APIs, using messaging and streaming technologies, and development tools such as Bamboo, Bitbucket, and Jira

Leadership & management

  • Experience successfully driving technology change initiatives in an organization
  • Experience hiring exceptional technology staff with ability to coach, manage and grow staff
  • Skilled at tactfully communicating sensitive information
  • Handles difficult personnel situations directly, using appropriate discretion, HR advice, and respect for the individual

  • Assesses training needs and selects training tools for team members
  • A visible leader that yearns for developing and motivating the next technology leaders
  • Ability to drive through, directly and through influence, efficient solution strategy, with agility and leadership skills which engineers recognize and respect
