Position Details Position Information Recruitment/Posting Title Faculty Health Services Research/Health Policy (Tenure Track, Rank Open) Department Inst-Hth,Hth Care Pol&Agng Res Salary Open Posting Summary The Center for Health Services Research (CHSR) of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, a unit of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), invites applications from Health Services Researchers with health care delivery and/or policy research experience or training for faculty positions within a multidisciplinary research group with a strong program of studies on the use and outcomes of health services, with particular strength in research on Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries; behavioral health services research; substance use, treatment and outcomes; and mental health treatment for children, the elderly, and those with severe mental illness. Research resources include extensive health services data on hundreds of millions of individuals covered by Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance. We are seeking exceptional researchers at all career states (Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate or Full Professor) who are dedicated to developing or maintaining strong programs of funded research, have a commitment to collaborative work, and show the ability to be leaders in health services and policy research. Faculty candidates must have a strong interest in building a health services or policy research portfolio working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary group of social scientists, policy scholars and clinicians. Candidates should also have demonstrated ability to develop strong, well-designed applications for federal research funding. In addition to their appointment at CHSR, applicants will receive academic appointments at Rutgers University as relevant to their background, in an appropriate school of the university. The majority of the faculty's effort will be dedicated to health services research at CHSR. The position is full-time, tenure- or research-track, with a competitive start-up.Within the broad framework of the strategic plans of RBHS and the Institute for Health, developing and leading programs of research in substance abuse and mental health services would be especially of interest. Many opportunities exist at the Institute for collaboration with significant existing lines of research on behavioral health including individuals with substance use disorders, psychotropic oversight for foster care children, quality of care for persons with severe mental illness, psychotropic treatment in nursing homes, integrated behavioral health care, health system response to the opioid epidemic and other substance abuse and mental health topics. Research addressing population health, translation of health services research findings into practice and the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups is valued. Expertise with health services research data resources, such as Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance datasets, would be welcomed. Substantial data resources including multiyear national Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care, private insurance data and state Medicaid and other data, are available to a candidate with interests in these areas. Opportunities exist for research with electronic health record data from the extensive Rutgers health system and affiliated health systems. Position Status Full Time Posting Number 24FA0213 Posting Open Date 02/22/2024 Posting Close Date 12/31/2024 Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree and doctorate-level training in health services research, health policy, public health, epidemiology, or related disciplines, with strong quantitative training and skills; a strong track record of peer-reviewed journal articles; post-doctoral training and/or other evidence of preparation to become R-01 funded principal investigators, or peer-reviewed funding appropriate to career stage. Successful applicants will have strong theoretical grounding and empirical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills to support developing a rigorous program of research; excellent organization, research, planning, project management, and problem-solving skills; a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a line of research and to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams; and enthusiasm for contributing to and expanding an innovative program in health services research and policy. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed in the Institute for Health with tenure-track or tenured appointment in an appropriate Rutgers school or department with teaching, clinical, and/or mentoring responsibilities.
