Job Description

Shopify is looking to hire a Manager to support the continued global expansion of Shopify Capital; a merchant capital solutions business that surpassed the $2 billion milestone. Given our explosive growth to date and our vision, you will have an opportunity to influence and execute the long-term strategy of Shopify Capital across products, geographies, financing alternatives, underwriting and operations. You will have the resources at your disposal to help carve our best path forward towards growth.

We work closely with our immediate colleagues on the Treasury team for day-to-day operational needs, including daily fundings to our merchants. We also partner with our colleagues across the organization, including Finance, Legal, Recovery, Data Science, and Product. Naturally, as Shopify continues to grow, this role’s responsibilities will grow with it.

At the end of the day, you will strategize with some of the brightest minds in tech, finance, and innovation - all while maintaining a healthy work-life balance in our Digital by Design, all-remote work environment.

You'll be working on things like:

  • Capital markets: soup to nuts, including sourcing, modelling, negotiation, documentation, and closing of asset-financing transactions

  • Being a key contributor to designing the long-term financing strategy for Shopify Capital

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with external parties including investors, investment banks, attorneys, and rating agencies

  • Leading various cross-functional projects internally, including new product initiatives, building credit and funding operational enhancements, management presentations, and Shopify Capital reporting metrics

  • Credit and underwriting analysis: examples include monitoring asset-level performance for internal / external stakeholders, and applying the feedback loop back into underwriting and product

  • Day-to-day operations: assisting our Capital Operations team on daily funding releases, large-loan credit analysis and implementing operational efficiencies for continued scale

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree; advanced degrees or credentials (e.g., MBA, CFA) are a bonus

  • Experience in asset-based lending or structured finance (warehouse lending, whole loans and / or securitization)

  • A proven track record of being involved in day-to-day operations of your previous roles

  • Exceptional communication skills, and the ability to explain complex issues in a simple, clear, and concise manner to influence strategic decisions

  • An analytical mindset with experience in credit and cash flow modeling

  • A high degree of integrity, accountability, intellectual curiosity, and sound judgment

  • A deep curiosity and a willingness to break free from the status quo

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • The ability to work productively in an individual workspace and remote environment

  • Technical abilities (SQL, Python, etc) are a plus
