Job SummaryThe overall purpose of this position is to conduct a range of strategic research for Client as well as make recommendations for the strategic direction of research for Client. This individual will increase Client 's ability to make data-driven decisions, which will allow Client to remain competitive and forward thinking. Working with the Senior Director of Strategic Research, Public Imperatives, & Corporate Development, they will manage and direct corporate research at Client including working with all organizational units including the 45 Societies and Councils, Standards Association, MGA, Publications, Marketing Sales & Design, and other departments within Client.The incumbent in this position is primarily responsible (along with others on the research team) for advising staff and volunteers on the research that needs to be collected so they can make informed data-driven decisions. This individual must be an expert in research methodology, sampling techniques and statistics. They must be able to translate complex research findings into easy to understand findings and apply the findings to the association setting. They must keep up with the latest industry trends and be committed to being an expert in the research field.The incumbent in this position is primarily responsible (along with others on the research team) for advising staff and volunteers on the research that needs to be collected so they can make informed data-driven decisions. This individual must be an expert in research methodology for both qualitative and quantitative research, sampling techniques, statistics, and a broad range of reporting techniques, including data visualization such at Tableau. They must be able to translate complex research findings into easy to understand findings and apply the findings to the association setting. They must keep up with the latest industry trends and be committed to being an expert in the research field.They may also support groups within Client in facilitated discussions, both around research findings as wells as more broadly, such as strategic planning discussions.The role typically reports to Senior Director of Strategic Research, Public Imperatives, & Corporate Development and manages 0 direct reports. This position works under low level of supervision and can authorize up to $10,000 in expenses but may manage the RFP process on several projects each year ranging in costs from $5,000-$150,000. They will be responsible for making recommendations, including pros and cons to senior staff and volunteers, and may be asked to negotiate price and deliverables.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mixture of managing long-term and high impact projects and taking the lead on short-term large and medium to small research projects. This includes understanding complex research methods (both qualitative and quantitative), statistical analytic techniques, and advanced methods of reporting in order to select the best approaches for each project.
    • Write reports that communicate important research findings to a variety of audiences and deliver results in appropriate formats including written reports, in-person presentations, webinars, and so on
    • Write surveys with the understanding of the cognitive and psychological issues that go into survey design and development
    • Analyze and interpret data using appropriate statistical techniques
    • Foster relationships with external research vendors and manage research projects with these vendors including budget and each step of the research process
  • Manage and moderate in-person and online focus groups, from conceptualization and planning to delivery of results
  • Use appropriate scientific methods to generate samples, understand sampling issues, response rates, and other issues that affect the ability to generalize responses from the sample
  • Represent Client in meetings with other association and market researchers
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience social science field, market research or statistics Req
  • Master's or other advanced degree Pref

Work Experience
  • 4-7 years primary research including qualitative and quantitative methodologies, sampling technique, questionnaire or focus group guide writing, data analysis and interpretation, report writing, and presenting results. Experience managing external research vendors is a plus. Their background must demonstrate hands-on practical knowledge of the research process and how best to apply research findings to a business/association setting Req

Skills and Requirements
  • A technologically-savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges
  • High level of proficiency with statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, or R
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau
  • Familiar with or comfortable learning emerging technologies
  • High level of presentation skills and comfort with presenting to senior leadership
