This role is critical in applying our deep expertise in mechanical engineering throughout the entire product life cycle, from LDRD proposals to the surveillance of components nearing the end of their operational life. This position requires collaboration with the United Kingdom through the Mutual Defense Agreement (MDA) under JOWOG 23, Non-nuclear Components and Technologies.As an R&D Manager, you will oversee the delivery of precision mechanical products essential for high-consequence national security applications. A strong understanding of the product realization process, along with the principle of Excellence vs. Perfection, is vital for success in this position.Our key customers include ND Tech Mat (NNSA/DoD) and surveillance, making this role pivotal in supporting national security initiatives.On any given day, you may be called on to:

Provide next generation principle-based surety component solutions to our system customers in time to meet Technology Readiness Level goals and insertion requirements by investing in Science and Technology partnerships and developing strategically aligned concepts that increase agility

Ensure the reliability, safety and viability of our surety mechanisms in the stockpile in support of the Annual Assessment Report (AAR) and contributing to the transformation of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile and complex by being a reliable, knowledgeable voice in the NW community.

The technical manager will be expected to develop a broad understanding of the products we deliver and their roles in next level assemblies.

The manager will lead technical teams of engineers and technologists and assure that, through engineering, operational, and project management excellence, the department delivers mechanical products by leading the innovation and development of advanced mechanical designs for the 7610 Group.

Salary Range:$157,100 - $267,000Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.Qualifications We Require:

Bachelor’s and advanced degree in mechanical, electrical, or closely related engineering discipline such in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) plus eight or more years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of a bachelor’s degree in STEM and relevant technical and leader experience will be considered.

Current DOE Q-level security clearance

Work experience in a product realization environment leading a team, or in a senior engineering or similar technical leadership role, specifically in the conceptual design space.

Effective program management skills in meeting deliverables

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Experience working with external stakeholders.

Familiarity with ND systems/subsystems
