Position/Job Title: IT Specialist (L1)

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Job Summary: The IT Specialist works under direct supervision of more senior technicians, performs directed general maintenance tasks, troubleshoots and repairs computer systems and peripheral equipment. Initiates service actions within a ticketing system and elevates issues to more senior technicians within the ticketing system when unable to resolve independently. Follows manufacturer's specifications for power and installation to protect equipment, installs an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with each PC and server, and ensures proper connectivity. Troubleshoots common access card issues. Sanitizes or destroys IT equipment and media prior to disposal or reuse IAW security regulations and policies, which may require travel away from home station. Monitors, secures, and sustains (patches) all internal network devices with assistance from more senior technicians. Provides internal hardware and software accountability support to equipment account holders for networks at various classifications. Assembles, installs, disassembles, uninstalls, and moves IT and electronic equipment in offices and common-use areas. Installs and integrates newly acquired printers, multifunction printers, scanners, and facsimiles on the network. Sets up, issues, and installs unclassified and classified telephony and related equipment (including encryption devices). Operates, monitors, sustains, and secures the AV display system to include TV, audio visual wall screen, other display screens (such as LCD or Plasma), tools display, and all related network, phone, and peripheral equipment required to conduct video teleconferencing operations. Other IT duties as assigned, which may include informal on-the-job training scenarios by more senior technicians. Other duties assigned.

Education and/or Experience/Skills Required:

  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline, or higher. Relevant work experience and training may be considered in lieu of a degree, similar to Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Crediting Combinations of Education and Experience standard.
  • 0-3+ Years' experience of support service of components of PC/Hardware, telephony, wireless networking, hardware/software installation/patching exclusive of server rooms and data centers, limited testing, and operations. Demonstrated capability performing client support, basic networking tasks, troubleshoot and work creatively to resolve identified problems. Willingness/capability to learn additional advanced skills.
  • Employee must possess and maintain IA computing environment certifications and access levels in accordance with DoD Directives (DoDD) 8140/8570.01-M.

Physical Requirements: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position will require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. May include lifting weight up to thirty (30) pounds as necessary.
