Job Description

Purpose of the role

  • To drive operational efficiency with enterprise data management
  • To drive most value of our data by driving the agenda of entity resolution and assisting with business growth from revenue, profitability and customer experience perspective
  • To drive improve data intelligence to power Verisk products and services
  • To drive improved data quality across the entire

Specific Responsibilities

Data Management

  • The leader will strengthen the impact of, and provide recommendations on, business information that needs to be available and shared consistently across the company. Must identify, define and analyze how information assets will drive business outcomes.
  • Surfacing information value —Assessing the benefits and the risks of information by using tools such as business capability models to create an information-centric view to quickly visualize what information matters most to the organization based on the defined business strategy
  • Enhancing decision making —Using tools such as business information models, organizations are provided with a future-state view of the information landscape that is unencumbered by the specific data implementation details imposed by proprietary solutions or technologies.
  • Influencing information strategy —By partnering with business unit leadership and through the rationalization of the information value chain, the leader provides strategic, information-based recommendations to protect the organization from disruptions while also embracing innovation.
  • Data modeling —Working with data architecture in creation and management of data models in all their forms, including conceptual models, relational database designs, message models and others.

Data and Operational Intelligence

  • The leader is involved in designing and building continuous operational intelligence into business processes and analytics products. Business operations require that product analysts, business analysts, analytics professionals and software developers acquire new skills and perform new functions including connecting data across the organization like entity resolution. Operational intelligence spans analytics, business applications, business process optimization and decision automation
  • The leader is involved in designing and building data engineering pipelines to make the data available into enterprise datalakes and providing ability for various products to access the data in seamlessly and efficient way, in addition to incorporating common data services that will be consumed by multiple business units

Driving the value of Data:

  • The leader can enhance their support of existing business by educating the company on the value of sophisticated analytics. This includes managing the analytics narrative through storytelling and by moving toward a data-driven culture. In this capacity, they play a key role in enabling greater utilization of information assets, which delivers quantifiable business value via improved business performance. Because this role spans the two orientations of business and the office of the CDO, the individual in this position must be comfortable in both worlds, but should be stronger on the business operations front.

Data Quality:

  • The leader is expected to drive the data quality agenda for the organization. Should have good insight on business, data and technology and provides governance over data quality and how it is interconnected across the system. This will also building data monitoring across the life cycle of the data.

Success Criteria

  • Verisk CDO and Business Unit leaders respond favorably to the support from Head of Data Management and Intelligence, in addition to the central data team, and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrable progress in driving Revenue growth in products by driving data management and entity resolution.
  • Improved Customer experience based on defined KPIs as agreed with BU
  • Increase operational efficiency and productivity based on defined KPIs
  • Ensuring proper governance over data and showing improvement in our data quality

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent data management, analytical and technical skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture.
  • Knowledge of entity resolution concepts, knowledge graph, master data management, etc
  • Organizationally savvy, and understanding of the political climate of the enterprise and how to navigate obstacles and politics.
  • Balance the long-term (“big picture”) and short-term implications of individual decisions and organization goals.
  • Strong knowledge of technology, data, cloud and insurance business. AWS knowledge is strongly preferred
  • Comfortable, experienced and accomplished at working with business executives, and able to push back in a professional and diplomatic way.
  • Highly collaborative and supportive of business and of its ideals and strategies.
  • Highly innovative with aptitude for foresight, systems thinking and design thinking.
  • Vendor- and technology-neutral — more interested in achieving targeted business outcomes than in personal, or those business and IT leaders with vested personal preferences.
  • Composed in the face of opposition to architectural principles, governance and standards.
  • Practical in approach to problem solving and decision making.
