Meridian Contracting, Inc. is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Heavy Civil / Heavy Highway / Industrial Carpenters. Experience with concrete form systems and rebar. OJT possible.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Build/install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

Fabrication and erection of forms with thorough knowledge of steel framed forms (i.e. meva) and wood forms. Fabrication and placement of rebar including proper tying techniques; and placing, finishing and sealing concrete. Experience in erection of all types of concrete structures. In addition, must have all necessary tools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.

2. Listen to other employee’s and supervisor’s suggestions, complaints, problems, safety concerns and recommendations, evaluate each and then devise and implement a plan of action based on that evaluation.

3. Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 80 pounds or more.

4. Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility.

5. Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

6. Use appropriate hand (i.e. hammer, pliers) and power tools (i.e. skill saw, concrete vibrator) to properly measure, cut, assemble and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts; construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden forms, according to specifications for molding concrete structures; insert spreaders and tie-rods between opposite pieces to maintain specific dimensions; anchor and brace forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks and timber; build wooden structures such as scaffold supports and frame shelters according to project specifications; pour concrete into finished forms, vibrate, level, smooth and shape surface of concrete to specifications; remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound; install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.

7. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

8. Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).

9. Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner.

10. Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.

11. Be motivated and work productively.

12. Perform all other job specific duties as requested by supervisor.

MINIMUM TOOLS REQUIRED:

Carpenter Overalls or Leather Nail Apron 16oz. Straight Claw Hammer 8 Point Saw Steel Framing Square 4’ Level Combination Square Flat Nail Bar 16ft. Steel Tape (or longer) 100ft. Nylon String Chalk Box Screwdriver (Phillips & Straight) 10” Crescent Wrench Margin Trowel Magnesium Float 16” Steel Trowel Tool Box for all required tools – to be with employee on site.
