Detailed Job Description:
  • The New York State Police Biological Sciences Section received a DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Grant Award from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) that includes funding for a Software Analyst position to be assigned in the DNA Databank Unit for a one-year period. A Software Analyst is needed to support efforts to evaluate, improve, and enhance LIMS type functionality in the DNA Databank including a data exchange web interface utilized with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
  • The New York State DNA Databank works in collaboration with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to process Convicted Offender DNA samples submitted under New York State Executive Law. Convicted Offender DNA samples are processed to develop DNA profiles for entry into the New York State Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). The DNA Databank is responsible for receipt, accessioning and analysis of offender samples. The DNA Databank also houses the State CODIS unit responsible for oversight and maintenance of the CODIS database that contains close to one million DNA records. DCJS is responsible for verifying an offender’s identity and qualifying offense information to make determinations regarding status of samples for testing and retention of DNA profiles in the CODIS database. A web interface is utilized to facilitate an electronic exchange of sample status data between the DNA Databank’s LIMS system and DCJS’s DNA Management System.
