Bring your expertise to provide support for tissue and other biobanking needs in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) in collaboration with allied district health boards.

A talented research technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist with extensive laboratory experience is being sought to join our highly respected research team within the Te Ira Kāwai - Auckland Regional Biobank.

This is a vital role in providing support for tissue and other biobanking needs, enabling our laboratory to function efficiently and effectively.

Important Skills/Knowledge | Nga Pūkenga Motuhake

Our ideal candidate will bring the following:

  • Experience in working with human samples, blood and tissue, particularly sterile preparation techniques
  • General laboratory skills including blood processing, DNA/RNA extraction and histological techniques.
  • Data entry competence, comfort interacting with patients and meticulous attention to detail are also required.
  • Flexibility, be well organised and able to multi-task, is self-motivated, diligent and have initiative.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team and can adapt and develop new skills.
  • The vacancy would suit a candidate with a BSc, BMLS or equivalent degree.
  • Other duties will include ensuring maintenance of the facility, laboratory equipment, supplies and supporting laboratory compliance with both the University and District Health Board codes of practice.

The position is primarily based at the University of Auckland, Grafton campus though staff are expected to work across the regional network where required. A driver’s licence would be of value.
