Public Safety Radio Operator

Salary: up to $60,000 Commensurate with ExperienceExcellent Benefits

Job Description:
  • Program software based radios; work with internal DoITT departments and vendors on the handling of back-haul trouble tickets;
  • Travel to all sites to support preventive maintenance and other repair work to correct problems on site;
  • Repair and/or report issues to appropriate departments for resolution;
  • Operate network IP based surveillance video cameras;
  • Handle radio hardware and software problems and report all issues to appropriate staff for resolution; ship faulty radios to vendor's depot for repair;
  • Respond to DoITT's help desk queries and trouble tickets;
  • Provide on-site support for the maintenance of all equipment at prime/master site and transmitter and receiver sites;
  • Provide technical support for radio emergency communications equipment at planned drills and emergency incidents; and handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Preferred skills:
  • Experience working with emergency communication equipment;
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software;
  • Ability to write or generate technical reports and documents in Genwatch computer system;
  • Familiarity with operating systems, including Windows Operating System, Remedy and Motorola software; and the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

Qualification Requirements: Six months of full-time satisfactory experience as a radio operator, broadcast technician, repairperson or mechanic in the field of radio, television or two-way communications or broadcast trainee in a broadcasting station or performing closely related work.

License RequirementA Motor Vehicle license valid in the State of New York may be required for some assignments. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.

Special Note:To be assigned to Assignment Level III the candidate must have, in addition to the requirements listed above, three years of satisfactory full-time experience as a broadcast technician (radio and/or television) which may include experience as a broadcast trainee in a broadcasting station.
