Work Arrangement/Location: This is a hybrid position requiring in-office work three days every week and will be based at the One M&T Plaza office in Buffalo, NY.Overview:Assist with providing analysis and counsel on legal issues for assigned business unit. Legal Associate assists with mitigating legal risks facing M&T, executes corporate policy and positions on legal issues and researches a variety of legal issues.Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with representation of the Bank in litigation matters.
Assist with implementation of streamlined and strategic policies and procedures for the legal support of supported divisions.
Assist in the development of departmental policies; review existing law and make recommendations regarding new procedures.
Review, and interpret legal documents through extensive legal research; prepare summaries of research results and conclusions; make recommendations to attorneys.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:This position is responsible for providing analysis and counsel on legal issues for departments supported. Incumbent should be able to anticipate and guard against legal risks facing M&T, develop and recommend corporate policy and positions on legal issues and conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal issues.Education and Experience Required:
This position is open to third-year law school students who will take the bar exam in July 2025. The start date for this position is September 2025.
Successful completion of the JD is required prior to start date.
Taking the Bar Exam prior to start date is required.
