Job Summary: The Chassis Mechanic is responsible for inspecting and analyzing malfunctions, completing repairs and efficiently rebuilding of trailers.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for daily inspection of trailers to ensure equipment is meeting safety standards under Federal Highway Administration standards.
Able to dismantle, repair and reassemble landing gears, wheel axles and brakes, this may include welding of broken parts.
Ensures electrical system is running efficiently.
Accurate documentation of all equipment files.
Completes all work orders in a timely and consistent manner.
Efficiently assures a minimum parts and supplies inventory accurately.
Required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as hearing protection, safety toe boots, safety glasses, protective hard hat and welding leathers & goggles, etc.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Drivers License
Advanced knowledge of industry from a vocational education institute, apprenticeship, on the job training and/or similar work experience.
Must have Federal Highway Inspection certification.
Strong problem solving skills.
Work Environment:
Required job duties are performed in all outdoor conditions including (rain, snow, ice, heat, wind, cold, etc).
The position may also be required to travel throughout the yard and the transfer station either by walking or driving.
Physically demanding position and due to the hazardous nature of the environment, this person must be able to see and hear fast moving equipment.
