Summary of Role\: GlobalFoundries is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technician to be a part of a Materials Characterization team at Fab 8, a state of the art 300 mm wafer facility located in Malta, NY. As a Materials Characterization Technician, you will have responsibilities in the areas of sample preparation, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Technician positions are hourly shift positions primarily working a compressed week of 12-hour shifts. GlobalFoundries is a 24/7 manufacturing facility providing technician support across all shifts. Essential Responsibilities include\:

  • Conduct AFM and SEM analyses
  • Perform necessary sample preparation to enable subsequent analyses
  • Able to follow detailed instructions to complete tasks meeting quality and cycle standards
  • Support preventative maintenance activities
  • Interact with technicians, engineers and managers to interpret results and offer solutions to meet or exceed expectations
  • Assure smooth operation by minimizing standby and idle times
  • Identify and address potential areas for improvement and optimize tool utilization, cycle time and cost
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement process
  • Have a sense of urgency

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Qualification: Required Qualifications\:
  • Good communications skills, attention to detail and the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Education\: 2 Year Technical/Associates Degree in a Science, Math, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Manufacturing or a related discipline or equivalent military training
  • Experience\: 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Travel Requirements\: 0% of Travel
  • Language Fluency\: English (Written & Verbal)
  • Physical demands\: Able to follow work and safety procedures in a laboratory environment
Preferred Qualifications\:
  • Experience in AFM, SEM/EDS (1-2 years), semiconductor failure analysis and related sample preparation instrumentation such as polishers and thin film coaters
  • Proficiency with software applications\: Microsoft Office
