- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Observes patients clinical status and reports findings to the RN. Addresses patient issues following established communication hierarchy. Participates in problem identification and problem solving in the work environment.
- Reviews plan of care during perioperative stay, monitors variances and modifies plan of care under the direction of the RN. Observes patient progress during perioperative stay with the RN.
- Provides direct care for specific patient assignment reflective of current and changing status of the patient. Provides the surgical team with the necessary instruments, sutures, special equipment and materials needed to perform surgery, while maintaining strict aseptic technique. Observes potential and actual changes in level of care required, notifies the RN and follows updated plan of care under the direction of the RN.
- Participates in unit based quality improvement initiatives, in peer review, mentor relationships, formal and informal education and orientation of new employees as needed. Assists and supports team members. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in services or obtains information presented. Keeps current with knowledge in areas of practice and related issues.
- Ensures completion of patient care assignment, quality control of equipment daily and escalates issues as needed. Works to improve and/or maintain HCAPS scores. Delegates aspects of care of the patient to team members consistent with scope, capabilities and responsibilities of care giver and supervises completion of assigned task.
- Communicates with patient/family and members of the health care team. Recognizes and responds to issues that may cause problems and/or refers issues through proper chain of command utilizing the escalation policy. Documents legibly.
- Complies with regulatory and the institutions policies governing safety standards, infection control, handling of sharps, and patient belongings. Ensures appropriate emergency equipment is present and operational. Labels all medication/solutions on the field with name, dosage and initials and performs a read back with RN/CST. Cognizant of HEICS (Hospital Emergency Incident Command System) plan and participates in implementing plan as required. Initiates corrective actions when counts are incorrect. Provides equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
