Position Summary:We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a RN Wound Care Specialist. In this role, the successful candidate The Specialist, Wound Care (RN) uses their knowledge, skill and experience to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate programs for all wound care initiatives. Employee provides guidance and assistance related to patient care practices. The Wound Care Specialist provides for programs and resources that enhance the delivery of patient care in accordance with established standards and utilizing quality measures/strategies to provide safe and competent care.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Formulates plans and guidelines for implementation of wound care initiatives. Coordinates andor develops interdisciplinary CQI teams as indicated and systematic process for evaluating nursing wound care effectiveness.

    • Provides formal and informal staff education as related to safety policies and procedures. Ensures staff compliance in practice with infection prevention techniques. Reports environmental or equipment safety hazards appropriately.
    • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with professional and ancillary staff. Participates in multidisciplinary meetings related to HAPUwound care. Demonstrates cost containment strategies when using supplies andor equipment.
    • Conducts formal orientation for new staff. Identifies questions that will provoke critical thinking resulting in appropriate clinical decisions and problem solving. Provides mentoringcounseling sessions as needed to enhance personal growth and development.
    • Assesses nursing staff members ability to perform technical skills related to wound care. Assesses assessment skills of the Registered Nurse related to wound care. Responds to individual, unit based andor other wound care specific requests.
    • Participates in the development, evaluation and revision of standards of patient care. Initiatesassists with investigation of incidents related to deviations from established standard of care. Participates in the resolution of clinical conflicts which impact patient care and patient outcomes.
    • Developsupdates procedures, plans strategies and takes action to resolve variances related to patient care. Organizes and implements mandatory in services to ensure compliance with identified standards and regulatory requirements. Collects, maintains, creates evaluation methods, and analyzes data regarding nursing wound care via HAPU (Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcer) database andor NDNQI (National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators).

Minimum Qualifications:To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree Nursing. Current and valid NYS Registered Nurse License. Current and valid BLS certification required. 6 - 8 years Experience in the clinical nursing practice. Excellent communication skills. Basic computer skills with knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree Nursing. Certification in wound care/ostomy. -Experience in wound care. Membership in professional organizations recommended.
