Req Number 0030I6Job DescriptionPerforms general clerical and receptionist duties incidental to work on patient care unit, including preparing, compiling and maintaining records in nursing unit.Responsibilities Include:

Performs a variety of duties relative to admission, transfer, discharge or expiration of patients.

Register, check-in, transfer and discharge patients as needed.

Prepares patient charts with chart ID, door tags and chart maintenance tags for new admissions.

Prints discharge notices as needed, scan final records, place completed chart in Medical Records assigned bins within established time interval, initiates appropriate notification to clinical and professional MD team(s) when patients are being admitted, discharges, transferred, expired, etc.

Complete discharge follow up appointment phone calls and log all appointments. Complete appointment cards for patients.

Performs a variety of clerical duties required to maintain accurate charts during patient stays.

Maintain concurrent scanning of all consultations, EKGs, conents, MOLST, belongings. Medicare Important Notice, and all other forms into chart.

Reviews patient charts and other related data for accuracy and completeness of information.

Complete PKUs as needed for all newborns, etc.

Performs a variety of clerical duties essential to operation of patient care unit, as directed.

Schedules with appropriate departments and/or individuals, patients for special tests, transportation, treatment consultations, etc. and ensure clinical team has correct paperwork.

Prepares a variety of records and reports, such as daily census, pending discharges, etc.

Distributes mail, packages and flowers to patients.

Maintains neat and orderly bulletin and electronic boards for unit; posts and removes information from bulletin board.

Maintains, chart areas, desks, files, etc. in a neat and orderly condition.

Notifies supporting departments of needs and/or changes on patient units.

Checks demographic information for accuracy of patient information.

Ordering of supplies needed on unit on an emergency basis or as directed by manager or Patient Care Manager.

Revise and update Unit Directory Board as required.

Acts as a receptionist on unit.

Provides information on directs visitors.

Uses appropriate telephone etiquette and knowledge of telephone system to facilitate communication of the patient units.

Daily distribute of VOCERA (communication) badges to clinical staff and maintain collateral requirements with signatures.

Works with Patient Accounts as needed for any patient financial inquires.

Answers intercom, assists visitors and distributes incoming mail. Answers routine questions or refers to appropriate individual for reply.

Receives and transmits messages accurately and promptly

Acts as representative of the hospital to patients and visitors and as such is appropriately attired and promotes good public relations.

Provides coverage where needed at the request of supervisory staff.

Performs related duties, as required.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.

Prior related experience, preferred.

Typing 30 wpm and/or data entry skills (80 keystrokes per minute), required.

Ability to communicate effectively.
