Brooklyn-based design firm seeks a seasoned, well-rounded shop drawings detailer to interpret advanced concepts and create precise hardscape plans, details, and fabrication drawings. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards, checking design drawings for accuracy, collaborating with architects and engineers on design coordination, and advancing design phase work for project delivery. The role also involves managing information requests during a project's bid phase, reviewing submittals during construction for acceptance/approval, and providing construction bulletins and field directives.
Key responsibilities
Produce precise shop drawing-level plans and details in CAD and 2D BIM for concrete, masonry, metal, and wood assemblies, including all necessary dimensions, material specifications, and connection details for orthogonal and parametric designs.
Interpret construction documentation of other disciplines for design phase coordination: Read and interpret architectural, site civil, structural, MEP, and other technical drawings to understand project requirements.
Ensure compliance: Make sure all drawings comply with relevant industry standards, codes (such as AISC and AWS), and project specifications.
Collaborate: Work with internal and external teams of landscape architects, architects, engineers, manufacturers, and fabricators to resolve design issues and clarify project needs.
Manage project information: Handle Requests for Information (RFIs) during a project's bid phase, create draft bills of material during design development for specifications coordination, and maintain organized records of all revisions.
Perform quality checks: Conduct thorough quality checks on drawings to identify and correct errors before final submission.
Review submittals: Review submittals for conformance with design intent, and acceptance or approval.
Candidate with requisite experience must demonstrate:
Proficiency in concrete, masonry, and metal shop drawings production.
Working familiarity with parametric design.
Understanding of construction methods, fabrication processes, and specific material properties.
Knowledge of relevant industry standards and safety codes (e.g., AISC, AWS, ASTM, AASHTO).
Working familiarity with building envelope construction.
