Description

About this role

BlackRock is one of the world's leading asset management firms and Aladdin® is the firm's an end-to-end operating system for investment professionals to see their whole portfolio, understand risk exposure, and act with precision. Aladdin is the central nervous system powering the investment decisions of both the firm and its clients; a $1bn technology business that has significant growth aspirations over the next five years. Our mission is to evolve Aladdin as a platform, open up its architecture, and transform design/ease of use. The Aladdin Studio team is integral to this mission as we are developing a world-class digital experience which will help developers of all types build faster and more effectively on Aladdin. We are evolving it as an integrated digital application where you can discover data, build your own financial apps, and access industry-leading content, documentation and insight - with all of this delivered via a design-forward and client-centric experience.

Job background

We are looking for a VP Product Manager to join the Aladdin Studio Compute team and lead the development of the of our advanced Compute capabilities and convergence of our other Aladdin and BlackRock data science platforms into Studio. This will require us building an integrated governance capability within the Studio application to truly make Aladdin Studio the user-provider home for Citizen Developers both within BlackRock and for our Aladdin clients.

Reporting to the Dir Technical Product Lead, you will support the end-to-end product road map for the advanced Compute features to ensure:
  • we have a market leading product benchmarked against peers
  • we have advanced industry specific capabilities that push our competition aside
  • we are streamlined internally across BLK towards a unified Citizen Developer platform
  • our resource accounting capabilities support a growing number of cloud-based offerings across the Aladdin Product suite.

Initial day 1 responsibilities will be to:
  • Own and drive the execution of Foresight and Algo Platform capability convergence
  • Own and drive the delivery of the Citizen Developer Governance capabilities and socialize internally, gather feedback and establish a roadmap for phase 2.
  • Look out further across BlackRock to the extended Citizen Developer platforms and set the strategy for feature and experience enhancements that will place Compute as a platform of choice for building on top of Aladdin

We are looking for someone with a deep knowledge of Aladdin data and permissions as you will help us define which controls and data elements should feature within Compute.
  • someone that had a deep understanding of SDLC & PDLC processes and how these can translate to the research domain of the Citizen Developer.
  • someone that has a firm grasp of Agile Product Management methods.

On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for writing product requirements, translating these into epics/user stories and prioritizing them as part of the Compute backlog. You will also work very closely with partners in Studio Product management (to ensure user experience and other product feature integration) and both our design and engineering teams to bring the product to market. For example, you will participate in user research, drive development and sign off of design screens and partner with developers on the build, testing and release of these. You will have responsibility for being up to date on industry trends and competitor capabilities in the fast-evolving landscape.

You will work as part of a dynamic and vertically integrated team that is based in NY, London, Delhi and San Francisco. Additionally, the structure of the business internally means you will need to operate in a matrixed fashion with multiple stakeholders in functions like our Platform team, Product Marketing, ACS etc. who are focused on diverse clients and users from technically curious reporting analysts, to citizen developers and professional engineers. As you develop the product road map, you will need to skillfully solve for this complexity of users and stakeholders and bring people on the journey in an effective way.

Our ideal candidate is someone who has a solid understanding of data products, a strong technical product orientation and an ability to turn complex requirements into products that make peoples' lives easier.

Primary responsibilities
  • Product Manager for the Compute Capabilities squad; inclusive of strategy, road map, and results. You will help build the product strategy and then translate into detailed requirements, backlogs and partner with design and engineering teams to bring those to life through concepts, wireframes, and final delivery in market.
  • Collaborate with Design Leads to optimize how we use data and UX research to define and solve user problems. Part of this also includes monitoring external trends and being able to communicate these in a simple, compelling way.
  • Work across APG leadership to identify overlap, coordinate strategy and reduce parallel resource expenditure to ultimately drive convergence of citizen development into the Studio platform
  • Partner with Engineering Leads to ensure sprints are managed within our release cycle and testing protocols.
  • Manage stakeholders effectively - you need to communicate product developments in a way that partners understand what we're doing and why. You'll be expected to partner with other product managers to ensure these are in sync with User Experience & ADC priorities.
  • Support the business case and rationale for new features and innovations.
  • Keep leadership informed of the team's progress and provide a realistic picture of what is achievable with the resources at hand.
  • Work with marketing, PR, and other stakeholders on promotional plans to ensure that strategies are integrated.
  • Represent the firm and the product by visiting clients to solicit feedback, being flexible to travel globally approx. 10% as needed.

Essential skills / experience
  • You must have at least 5 years' experience leading technical product developments (ideally in the digital space), managing all aspects of a successful product throughout its lifecycle.
  • Deep functional understanding of Aladdin data and permissions management.
  • Understanding of design thinking, Lean UX practices (e.g. concepting, user testing, prototyping etc), web/mobile development practices, and knowledge of APIs a significant bonus.
  • Experience and understanding of both waterfall and Agile project management disciplines, with an emphasis on Scrum and Lean UX
  • Good written and verbal communication and ability to gain buy-in on plans from a non-technical audience at varying degrees of seniority.
  • Positive attitude and resilience, with strong problem-solving skills
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization
