Group Description:

Portfolio Analytics Group (PAG) within BlackRock Solutions delivers actionable insights to our investment, risk, and client teams by applying data and financial models through Aladdin to influence portfolio decisions, leveraging our expertise in financial analytics, Aladdin infrastructure, and data modeling techniques.

Team Description:

The Active Investing Analytics team's mission is to create higher quality investment processes for BlackRock's Active Fixed Income and Equity businesses by delivering innovative solutions grounded in our expertise of analytics and the Aladdin platform. The team prides itself in solving problems deskside but also taking those solutions enterprise wide for bigger commercial impacts. The team is located globally across New York, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo, however, the role will be based onsite in our New York office.

Role Description

The team seeks a driven Applied Analytics Associate with demonstrated problem solving skills who will partner with investment and risk teams to advance Aladdin's analytics and apply them in new and innovative ways. Candidates will be expected to build strong knowledge of financial markets and achieve a deep understanding of investment processes spanning different asset classes. They will leverage statistical and modern scripting techniques and work with different datasets to derive insights and build analytics solutions. This position also involves partnering with cross functional teams across BlackRock to oversee and execute projects to advance Aladdin capabilities for our investors and researchers. In addition to creativity and innovation in applying quantitative skills, stakeholder engagement, consensus building amongst multiple partner teams and skillful project management will also be key to success. This role has a US focus but is global in scope, has high visibility with BlackRock's Portfolio Management and Citizen Developer communities and provides an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team with a strong culture for hard work, high performance, and collaboration.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure successful, high-impact delivery of results aligned with the Portfolio Management Group's strategic priorities and PAG's value proposition
  • Collaborate with software engineering, financial modeling, and portfolio management teams to design and deploy solutions
  • Leverage technology and modern data science techniques to build custom solutions for investment teams
  • Create innovative features and analytics for specific deskside problems and then where plausible craft strategies to incorporate them in core Aladdin toolset for the rest of the firm
  • Manage relationships with BlackRock's portfolio teams and forge opportunities for new commercial applications of existing data and analytics

Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in an analytical role, preferably in a technology or financial services setting.
  • Business analyst experience outside of these industries would also be considered
  • Broad knowledge of modern techniques in scripting, experience querying databases and organizing data sets and workflows
  • Ability to influence and lead multiple teams towards a common goal
  • Creativity in solving unconventional problems and entrepreneurial drive to learn new skills and technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven experience in building analytics using bond math, modern portfolio theory, and financial data to better understand portfolios in the asset management industry is preferred
  • Experience in building and managing relationships with stakeholders and partners in a highly matrixed organization is preferred
