About this role

The Management Information & Initiatives (MII) team within BlackRock's Finance department is seeking an Associate to join the team in New York. Partnering with various business areas and functions across BlackRock, this position will support mutual fund board reporting and analysis, business economics, financial modeling and analytics, process design, and special projects. Candidates should possess great attitude, strong analytical skills, and be able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Work experience in the Mutual Fund or Investment Management industries preferable.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation of various firm-wide business allocation and reporting projects, including the US Mutual Funds Board reporting ("15(c)" reporting). The 15(c) reporting includes estimated fully-costed operating income for over 750 1940-Act funds for the fund boards' annual assessment
  • Analyze and support fund board reporting for funds registered outside the United States (such the Assessment of Value for funds registered in the United Kingdom)
  • Collaborate with various teams to understand the nature of BlackRock functions and products, help run and monitor the allocation model process in the TM1 finance system, and conduct validations and deep-dive variance analysis on results
  • Create complex financial models for fund board reporting, as well as for analysis of the company, businesses, and products (using large sets of data) to support senior management's strategic decisions
  • Assist in creation of presentations and detailed financial analyses presented to senior management and board of directors; deliver well-structured analyses and clearly presented findings
  • Coordinate processes and explore opportunities to enhance data sourcing, model methodologies and advanced technologies to bring about increased automation, efficiency, and accuracy

Experience and Skills Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related field; MBA a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience, preferably in the Financial Services industry; Mutual Fund or Investment Management industry experience, as well as 1940-Act 15(c) experience, a big plus
  • Solid experience with modeling, financial analysis, and project management
  • Strong problem-solving, quantitative, process driven and analytical skills; strategic and creative thinking
  • Superb Excel skills - extensive use of complex Excel functions, including Power Pivots and VBA, and building financial models and reports; solid experience with Cognos Planning Analytics (TM1) strongly preferred
  • Strong PowerPoint skills (role will require putting together material for senior management/Board of Directors)
  • Experience working with large data and utilizing different tools and platforms for reporting
  • Focused attention to detail and high standards for quality and accuracy in work product
  • Strong organizational, planning and project management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly articulate and present ideas, both in written and oral form, to colleagues and senior management
  • History of effective multi-tasking, expectation setting, cross-functional coordination, proper issue escalation; ability to work in a fast pace environment with time sensitive deliverables
