New York Life Insurance (NYL) is seeking a highly talented, driven team player eager to lead in the business analysis discipline, aligned to the development and enhancement of our life insurance product lines. The NYL Life Product portfolio is a core pillar of the enterprise and a focal point of business and technology innovation. Careful alignment of design, technology innovation, and execution capability is critical to delivering on the NYL Product Strategy.

The Lead Business Analyst / BA Team Lead will partner with the Life Product Managers within the business to understand the market opportunities NYL will pursue and collaborate to determine the enhancements to our existing products or deployment of a new product / product line required. This leadership role requires an organized problem solver that can delegate effectively. Success requires the ability to work collaboratively across multiple business and technology areas, overseeing a team of business analysts that align to Product Owners in support of a portfolio of complex multi-million-dollar projects. The individual must dive deep to resolve complex issues one hour and then elevate to provide executive level updates the next.

Functional Responsibilities:
  • Maintains a relationship with Life Product Leadership and develops an understanding of the goals / objectives of the different product lines and helps develop a roadmap of initiatives in order to achieve them
  • Oversees a team of 10 business analysts aligned to different life insurance product lines and deployed to a multitude of initiatives
  • As a leader in the discipline, this role is accountable for the successful delivery of our initiatives and achievement of our goals
  • Ultimately accountable for the business, technical and process requirements developed by the team ensuring they are clear, concise, complete, consistent, comprehensible, feasible, unambiguous, traceable, and verifiable
  • Solves for a broad range of problems, preparing options and recommendations, challenging existing norms and solutions, seeking different perspectives
  • Ability to work with our business and technical partners to achieve an efficient and effective solution with holistic view across internal and external systems
  • Keeps current with industry trends, latest innovations, technology, and best practices within the discipline, and disseminates that knowledge throughout the organization
  • Stays aligned to the multi-year business / technology roadmap in support of the Life Product Strategy, spanning multiple technology domains, platforms, internal and external IT teams
  • Manages the staffing, capacity, demand and deployment of business analysis resources to different initiatives as needed
  • Articulates high-level business needs to all IT decision makers and influences the broad IT decisions required to support the Product Strategy

Required Skills:
  • 5+ years of employee management, team building and talent development
  • Strong business orientation with the ability to build and manage multiple business relationships at senior levels
  • Proven leadership ability in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Strong leadership, management, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail
  • Ability to interpret business challenges, identify trends and recommend best practices
  • Ability to explain technical solutions to technical and non-technical teams
  • Strong track record of executing initiatives of varying scale
  • Excellent presence and experience in communicating and presenting to all levels
  • Highly innovative and flexible self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple simultaneous priorities

Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • High Tech, Life Insurance or Financial Services industry experience
  • SAFE certification or experience working in SAFE
  • 10+ years in Business Analysis or related field
