Job Description

The position is responsible in providing expertise and leadership on formulation of internal controls, support most aspect of accounting management to ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and assist in the preparation of financial statements with official guidelines and requirements. Manage all reporting responsibilities associated with preparation of tax filings for federal, state, and local agencies. Ensure the organization’s compliance with Not-For-Profit tax law.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare monthly and year-end reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts
  • Review and post all journal entries in MSD
  • Prepare year-end audit schedules requested by auditor on Cash and Cash Equivalents, Investments, Pledges Receivable, Split Interest Agreements, Prepaid, Accrued Income Fixed Assets, Deferred Revenues, AP Accruals, Grants Payable and Net Assets
  • Facilitate and work closely with the broker in processing stock donations and provide notification and stock information to respective chapter receiving credit/attribution of the donated stock
  • Prepare the National & Group 990’s and 990T’s, as well as the New York CT13 form by collecting, analyzing, and formatting financial information. Provide any additional information needed for Workplace Giving Campaign.
  • Responsible for all state filings regarding solicitation permits and Chapter registrations. Organize and update all state sales tax exemption certificates.
  • Work in conjunction with the Planned Giving Program on Gift Annuity applications and annual filings.
  • Perform all other responsibilities and projects as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor and senior management
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of JDRF. Understand the strategic direction and purpose of the department and conform to stated strategies and business needs.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as accounting manager or other similar position
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
  • Proficient in MS Office (Advanced Excel) and accounting software (e.g. MSD365, Oracle)
  • Well-organized with ability to prioritize
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree required. Further education preferred.
