As the Data Science Strategy and Development Senior Associate, you're in the middle of all the action. Whether using Spatial Data Science to identify opportunities, Natural Language Processing to create features from documents or Neural Networks to make predictions, you'll learn about the many ways artificial intelligence is applied at New York Life and how our models are driving results, all while interacting with a wide range of people from our data scientists to our media team. From week to week you'll work on varying initiatives and programs to share the innovations of the team and the importance of the work being done both across the team and with the entire company. You'll put your creative force behind relaying what has already been accomplished and what can be achieved in the future through the power of data science.

Specifically, in your role, you will support all efforts to communicate about New York Life's data science activities. You will conceive, develop, and organize data science community events. We host data science related monthly seminars, external speakers, annual forums, skills-based volunteer opportunities, educational workshops, and training for the company; in addition, there are CDSAi-specific development opportunities and events. You will also use your technical writing skills to write articles for external publications and for an internal audience-our over 11,000 employees. You will also help with explaining our work through video and animation and co-lead our successful Data Science Academy which is a portal to learning all things data science for New York Life employees. There is a lot of room to infuse your original ideas while being exposed to interesting ways artificial intelligence algorithms are applied at New York Life.

Responsibilities
  • Develop workshops, seminars, and other educational data science-related programs
  • Assist in planning data science community events
  • Manage the coordination of logistics and promotion for events
  • Lead engagement of the data science community through articles and posts
  • Create content for internal intranet sites to drive engagement
  • Write for external publications and media outlets
  • Assist in creating impactful presentations and videos
  • Maintain, and contribute to, company intranet pages on data science-related topics
  • Coordinate recruiting, mentorship events, and Capstone projects with Universities
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the company including Corporate Communications, Media, Learning and Development, Talent Acquisition, Event Planning, among other teams
  • Follow industry trends in insurance and data science
  • Travel to events and vendor meetings as needed (

Required qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree. Majors in Journalism, Communication/Media, or a Humanities field with a high interest in Technology may be better suited, but all are considered.
  • Proven superb written communication skills spanning technical writing for research articles to marketing and promotional ads
  • Past experience in event planning and execution
  • Media savvy with experience in public relations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals across the company
  • Ability to work with external partners and vendors
  • Strong interpersonal, listening and collaboration skills
  • Excellent organizational skills to keep track of multiple projects, tasks, projects and workflows concurrently
  • Powerful creative bent
  • Proficient in developing effective and visually appealing PowerPoint presentations and promotional content
  • Must absolutely be enthusiastic about applications of artificial intelligence and enjoy learning about new developments in data science. This is unequivocally essential as you will be immersed in this field.

  • Minimum 7 years of demonstrable relevant experience
