Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide management & administration, including maintenance and technical support for the MTA's enterprise mobility management system, currently VMWare Workspace One (AirWatch). This position is also responsible for providing technical support to the MTA's smartphones and tablets, computer server hardware, operating system software and storage area network environment, including the installation and maintenance of complex computer equipment and software configurations. u ter server hardware, operating system software and storage area network environment, including the installation and maintenance of complex computer equipment and software configurations.

Responsibilities

Level 1
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot complex hardware and/or software solutions supporting MTA's server and storage environment to ensure that all MTA application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Configure and install servers for various functions, including but not limited to application servers, database servers, domain controllers, web servers and storage area networks.
  • Work with database administrators, network administrators, help desk staff and other IT technical resources to coordinate server and storage infrastructure requirements and analyze / troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Ensure all required system documentation and record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling IT assets are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new products and technologies.

Level 2
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot complex hardware and/or software solutions supporting MTA's server and storage environment to ensure that all MTA application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Configure and install servers for various functions, including but not limited to application servers, database servers, domain controllers, web servers and storage area networks.
  • Work with database administrators, network administrators, help desk staff and other IT technical resources to coordinate server and storage infrastructure requirements and analyze / troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Level 3

  • Assist with the physical planning associated with the installation of server and storage technology.

Level 4
  • Install and oversee the configuration and troubleshooting of complex hardware and/or software solutions supporting MTA's server and storage environment to ensure that all MTA application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Configure and install servers for various functions, including but not limited to application servers, database servers, domain controllers, web servers and storage area networks.
  • Work with database administrators, network administrators, help desk staff and other IT technical resources to coordinate server and storage infrastructure requirements and analyze / troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Ensure all required system documentation and record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling IT assets are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new products and technologies, influence future direction and provide input into the overall impact of introducing the technology in the MTA environment.
  • Guide less senior technicians and staff in the performance of their tasks.
  • Plan, design and engineer solutions and standards to be applied within the IT department.
  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of tasks associated with the installation of server and storage technology.

Level 5
  • Install and oversee the configuration and troubleshooting of complex hardware and/or software solutions supporting MTA's server and storage environment to ensure that all MTA application and systems availability targets are met.
  • Configure and install servers for various functions, including but not limited to application servers, database servers, domain controllers, web servers and storage area networks.

  • Lead the planning and coordination of tasks associated with the installation of server and storage technology.
Qualifications

Level 1
  • Basic knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer server hardware, operating system software and storage area network equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues both remotely and on-site using standard MTA tools and techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals and documentation such that supported equipment and software can be maintained with minimal training.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Must be able to move and lift up to 25lbs of equipment such as switches, routers, UPS, laptops, firewalls, etc.

Level 2

Same as Level 1 with the following additional qualifications
  • Knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer server hardware, operating system software and storage area network equipment.
  • Ability to provide technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Familiarity with enterprise mobility management / mobile device management platforms such as VMware Workspace One (AirWatch), Intune, JAMF etc.

Level 3

Same as Level 2 with the following additional qualifications
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer server hardware, operating system software and storage area network equipment.
  • Ability to provide technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Strong people skills.
  • Strong familiarity with enterprise mobility management / mobile device management platforms such as VMware Workspace One (AirWatch), Mobile Iron, Blackberry, Intune, etc.
  • Proven knowledge and familiarity with maintaining and troubleshooting iOS, Android and Windows Mobile operating systems and software.
  • Experience with configuration, deployment and support of mobile point of sale systems and associated hardware.

Level 4

Same as Level 3 with the following additional qualifications below
  • Advanced knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer server hardware, operating system software and storage area network equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience guiding less senior technicians and staff in the performance of their tasks.
  • VMware AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Associate certification or equivalent mobile device management platform certification

Level 5

Same as Level 4 with the following additional qualifications below
  • Strong familiarity with Apple Business Manager and Android for Enterprise integration with VMWare Workspace One.
  • Extensive experience working with vendors and contractors to manage/maintain enterprise mobility management projects and solutions
  • Hands-on experience managing devices with Microsoft Intune
  • Proven experience working with senior level staff contributing to both short and long term technology related planning strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, present and apply complex technology solutions to solve critical business requirements effectively and efficiently.
  • Must demonstrate highly developed knowledge of current industry standard IT technologies and market trends.
  • Demonstrated experience planning activities and provide advanced technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Strong people skills and proven leadership experience.
Education and Experience

Level 1
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 1 years' experience installing, maintaining, administrating and supporting computer hardware and operating systems software such as Windows, HP-UNIX, LINUX, VMware, ESX or Active Directory.
  • Must possess a basic knowledge, familiarity and experience with maintaining and supporting networking protocols, internet technology and Windows services.

Level 2
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 5 years' experience installing, maintaining, administrating and supporting computer hardware and operating systems software such as Windows, HP-UNIX, LINUX, VMware, ESX or Active Directory.
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years' experience with maintaining and supporting computer hardware, operating systems software, networking protocols, internet technology and Windows services.

Level 3
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 7 years' experience installing, maintaining, administrating and supporting computer hardware and operating systems software such as Windows, HP-UNIX, LINUX, VMware, ESX or Active Directory.
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years' experience with maintaining and supporting computer hardware, operating systems software, networking protocols, internet technology and Windows services.

Level 4

Other Information

This is a resume based position in the collective bargaining unit represented by the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and will be governed by the terms of the associated TCU collective bargaining agreement for IT employees. As such, candidates selected for this position will be represented by TCU and be on MTA payroll. In addition, candidates selected may be required to work at any MTA Agency location.
