About the Aladdin Sustainability LabThe Aladdin Sustainability Lab drives the development and delivery of sustainable data, research, analytics, and technology as a product. As a member of the ASL, you will be working with financial modelers, climate scientists, and ESG experts to design the best-in-class sustainability product and software for the firm and its clients, to manage risk associated with climate change and ESG in asset management.

The Aladdin Sustainability Lab UX and Product team researches and designs the user experience for our financial management system, Aladdin. They deliver these exciting new products to investors at BlackRock, the many financial institutions who use Aladdin and importantly the communities they serve. The team is also responsible to build the next generation of climate analytics platform to allow researchers to run their models with large compute. As a UX Researcher, you will:

Demonstrate Excellence in Design Research:
  • Help define and drive the future of BlackRock design. You identify and set design strategy, envision complex UX ecosystems and inspire teams to push the boundaries of what's possible through human-centered and data informed processes. You possess a clear vision of the future of user experience and have the courage to pursue forward-thinking design.

Lead Design Research Engagements with our Partners:
  • In this role, you will apply your passion for design, craft, and experimentation to guide research and design strategy processes, mentor talented team members, and collaborate with design and engineering teams to create innovative experiences across all of BlackRock's Aladdin products.

Help Guide Product Strategy and the Design Process:
  • User Experience (UX) is at the forefront of how we create intuitive, innovative, and beautiful products that people love. We strive to learn and understand our users' needs, behaviors, and emotions to yield insights that inform product strategy and guide the design of the experiences we create.
  • Our multidisciplinary UX teams include researchers, designers, and engineers who are passionate about quality, usability, and performance. We collaborate closely with product managers, software engineers, and many others to solve complex challenges and craft powerful experiences that highlight our products' unique capabilities and personalities.

Convey Research Insights and Complex Concepts Simply, in Human Terms:
  • We are looking for a self-starter who is excellent at communicating and partnering closely with UX designers and stakeholders to execute industry-leading UX research at BlackRock You are a hybrid thinker equally moving from data-informed insights to qualitative approaches. You are able to convey research findings in a simple and engaging manner that allows stakeholders from all walks of life to understand and empathize with our users.

Champion UX Research as a Thought Leader in the Field:
  • The right candidates will be knowledgeable about product design, passionate about understanding people, curious about the relationship between technology and society, comfortable in a fast-moving organization, excited to collaborate, open-minded about learning new skills and methods, and focused on influencing the future of BlackRock.

QualificationsMany exciting UX researchers are from a variety of backgrounds or former roles including journalists, anthropologists, analysts, and other industries working with an array of differing populations and ways of thinking. We are interested in your ability to demonstrate deep experience connecting with people, surfacing and articulating insights, and creating and executing strategies based on those insights.

You Are:
  • An absolute professional who leads by example, treats peers and partners with respect, and seeks and gives constructive feedback
  • A top-notch communicator, able to convey research insights and complex concepts to a wide diversity of audiences in simple, human terms
  • Comfortable switching seamlessly between self-directed independent work and highly collaborative teamwork
  • A lifelong learner, passionate about experimenting with new research methods and pushing your own craft in new ways
  • Deeply curious and highly attuned to human behavior

Your Experience includes:
  • 4 -5+ years of industry experience, working in UX Research on experience design or product teams.
  • Bachelor's Degree in social sciences (e.g. economics, sociology, psychology, decision sciences, HCI), statistics, computer science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experienced planning and leading research activities such as interviews, group sessions, observations, and synthesis sessions

It would be great if you also had:
  • A Master's or terminal degree in your field.
  • Experience in Finance or Enterprise Tech.

Useful, but not required:
  • Some experience with designing and analyzing A/B experiments.
  • Some experience with applied statistical analysis, data extraction (SQL), and scripting languages (Python, Lingo).
Responsibilities
  • Be a thought leader on combining user data and qualitative insights to inform the product experience.
  • Build a culture around user informed design and strategy for the UX team and across the organization.
  • Plan, execute, interpret, and socialize research findings.
  • Evangelize best practices.
  • Create actionable insights that inform product development.
  • Train and mentor junior talent in UXR methods and best practices.
  • Build strong collaborations across teams.
  • Develop new methods and metrics development that can be replicated across the organization.
