Contemporary Art gallery in Lower East Side is looking for an intern who is motivated to gain experience working in a contemporary commercial art gallery. The intern will be expected to support the staff in all aspects of gallery business. The right candidate will have, or be pursuing, a degree in fine art, art history, arts management, curatorial studies or visual criticism. This is an unpaid, part-time internship position. 10-15 hours a week, course credit available. We are looking for a minimum of a three month commitment. Duties:
- Monitor gallery during operating hours.
- Provide visitors with information on gallery artists.
- Assist during receptions, art fairs.
- Assist in preparation of press and marketing materials.
- Assists in the preparation of gallery mailings.
- Updating and maintaining gallery database.
- Assist in preparation of gallery walls and hanging of artworks.
- Assist in preparing artworks for shipping.
- General administrative assistance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Fine Arts OR current enrollment in an accredited Fine Art program
- A working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and MS Office Suite (specifically Word and Excel)
- Knowledge of contemporary art.
Candidate must have the ability to:
- Work independently
- Communicate effectively
- Organize, prioritize and complete varied tasks quickly and accurately.
