Events, festivals and summits are an important way in which we extend the influence of The Times and connect with our readers. We create powerful live expressions of our journalism by putting our best journalists on stage together with top figures from the fields of business, politics, entertainment, arts and culture.

The Director of Programming is responsible for curating and delivering an ongoing program of culturally relevant programming and will report to Sr Director of Programming, NYTLive.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Times’ editors and reporters to develop and execute compelling on-stage and offstage content and generate new programming concepts and formats

  • Work with, direct and guide speakers through on-stage experience

  • Research potential speakers and topics across our event categories

  • Act as talent booker for NYT portfolio of events

  • Work as liaison between talent and newsroom editorial leads to develop talks, questions and conversations

  • Build exceptional relationships with thought-leaders, influencers, talent agents and publicists to enhance programming opportunities

  • Ensure all events are maximizing programming efforts that drive news, PR and value for external audience/s and subscribers

  • Work cross-departmentally to support sponsor and brand programming

  • Effectively partner with internal and external production management teams to ensure flawless technical event execution

  • Work across news desks and across teams to create more content for NYT platforms and coordinate coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Event programming or professional talent management experience for live events or communication agency.

  • Preferred 8+ years of experience

  • Extensive experience programming high-visibility live events gives you a deep understanding of market-wide trends, themes, and current cultural events

  • A rare ability to discover, recommend, and source talent with an eye to emerging talent, new names, uncovering untold stories and creating stars

  • You are well-connected within the event industry and have a wide network of contacts across music, business, publishing, film, and beyond.

  • Flexible project management style with the ability to quickly adapt and effect change and successfully navigate and execute multiple large-scale projects at once.

  • Resourceful, committed to excellence and willing to sweat the details

  • Proficient in Mac OS and Google Suite (a plus)

  • Energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to work well with a team in an entrepreneurial environment.

  • Effective at working with people from diverse backgrounds, teams, and working styles — across the newsroom and the business side

  • You have strong collaboration, verbal and written communication and networking skills.

  • Enjoys travelling and able to travel as needed
