About The Opportunity
More About the Role We are looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to provide technical and architectural leadership for a key Restaurant engineering team. You will conceptualize, design, build and deploy new and innovative products and services for the Grubhub Restaurant Platform to facilitate the wide offerings, capabilities, and feedback loops for our restaurant partners. Our Engineers wear a lot of hats - including hands-on coding, mentoring developers, influencing our product vision, and designing our system architecture. We have high standards for code quality, all forms of testing, and intelligent architecture. We're looking for a candidate with a passion for frontend development and experience in fullstack development as a bonus. Experience with javascript frameworks such as React/Redux and Typescript are a big plus. On the backend side, experience in service-based architecture, development in Java, Scala and/or Python, and familiarity with nosql datastores like Cassandra are also desired but not required. Hey! The Impact You Will Make- Architect, implement and test technology solutions at Grubhub
- Motivate and advise technical solutions across multiple cross-functional teams
- Take technical responsibility for a family of systems - manage technical debt, be on the lookout for opportunities for improvement, and work with system engineers to keep our production systems scaling and performing wickedly fast
- Actively contribute to the adoption of software architecture, best practices, and technologies.
- Participate in future product direction
- Act as a technical voice for the restaurant engineering group
- Encourage continuous delivery and an experimentation-centered development process
- Work with a globally distributed team providing technical direction to both junior and contract members
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Programming or Engineering related field
- 5+ years experience building highly-scalable consumer-facing applications (e-commerce preferred)
- Can provide mentorship/coaching to junior engineers or manage a small offshore team
- Masterful understanding of front end frameworks, React/Redux and Typescript are preferred
- Experience designing and improving backend APIs
- Experience architecting, designing and developing testable, fault tolerant, and performant software
- Masterful understanding of unit testing, integration testing, and load testing
- Experience successfully building distributed and highly available systems
- Experience with AWS and Cloud Infrastructure
- Experience and understanding of Non-Relational Databases
- You will work with your team to monitor and ensure the health of the platform, which includes a 24/7 hour on-call rotation, to ensure a great customer experience.
- Solid understanding of backend service development (Java, Scala, Python, etc)
- Experience in service and system level architecture
- Experience working with distributed, international teams
- Familiarity with frontend tools like TestCafe, New Relic and Webpack
- Experience with Cassandra is a plus
