Job summaryOur Team Product Knowledge (PK) is responsible for developing the product knowledge graph and services powering the customer display, search, and supplier experience. We manage a comprehensive set of schematic and semantic constructs that allows us to understand customer's intent to provide a buying experience that feels targeted to their shopping mission. We build distributed systems that are partially or entirely powered by AI and ML. Our high scale distributed systems process hundreds of millions of updates on the billions of products to power the online buying experience for hundreds of millions of Amazon's customers worldwide.

Our Mission Enable customer shopping journeys on Amazon by modeling an authoritative, standardized, semantically rich, easily discoverable, extensible, and universally applicable body of product knowledge that can be consistently utilized across customer shopping experiences, selling partner listing experiences and internal enrichment of product data.

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Manager with initiative who enjoys diving deep into the data and coming up with innovative solutions.

You will take on interesting challenges everyday. You will need to be comfortable pushing back and challenging the status-quo. You will need to design keeping both short-term and long-term mind. You will need to make high judgement calls around reuse vs rebuild. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that's higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems. You will need to be comfortable in leading design reviews and representing your team and business to other parts of Amazon.

The ideal candidate will be a leader who is a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will have excellent business, technical, analytical and strategic thinking skills. You are effectively able to work with business and technology leaders to define and prioritize key business and customer problems, build data acquisition and mine data using AI and ML.

As a Sr SDM you will:
  • Establish and execute short and long-term roadmaps for the business
  • Lead and grow a set of teams to deliver customer impacting features
  • Build scalable, efficient, and automated knowledge discovery systems
  • Analyze and process large amounts of to extract valuable information from various sources (e.g. product catalog, search query )
  • Work creatively through and around perceived limitations and/or challenges imposed by the delivery platform to enable delightful experiences for customers.
  • Effectively present work to all levels of the leadership.
  • Be an effective collaborator in a cross functional team of , Managers, Engineers, Applied Scientists, Technical Program Managers, and Product Managers.
  • Drive continual improvements to the efficiency and flexibility of the business platform while keeping an extremely high bar customer trust, performance, and availability.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in managing engineering teams and software application development.
  • A deep understanding of software development, architecture, and infrastructure.
  • Exposure to Agile and Scrum development methodologies
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering or a related technical discipline

  • The ability to align efforts of disparate groups to achieve a common goal
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong business and technical vision
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
