Job Overview :Waste Engineers report to the BWSR Waste Engineering Manager in support of Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) activities at the Kesselring Site in West Milton, NY. BWSR is the D&D subcontractor for the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) performing remediation/demolition of legacy facilities as well as characterization of site infrastructure to support various projects at the Kesselring Site. This position will perform a variety of engineering tasks while working within the project's waste management program.Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:Provide adequate and auditable documentation to ensure wastes are properly identified, characterized, packaged, stored, shipped, and ultimately dispositioned. This documentation must be completed in a cost-effective manner while maintaining strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Develop sampling plans and interpret analytical results in order to determine the radiological and regulatory status of planned waste materials.

Develop characterization documents to accurately determine the physical, chemical, and radiological properties of all waste to be generated during D&D activities.

Complete certifications for filled shipping containers.

Assist with the completion and reviews of waste manifests and/or bills of lading for wastes being shipped off-site for disposal.

Provide oversight of waste generation and storage activities to ensure they are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Interface with NNL counterparts to provide waste forecasts and schedules in order to minimize time delays to projected milestones.

Perform periodic surveillances of waste storage areas to ensure they are in compliance with all applicable regulations.

Review and concur with all technical/formal work documents.

Basic Qualifications:

B.S./B.A. from an accredited university (Preferred)

Minimum 5 years experience in related field

Broad experience in environmental management, waste management, and radiological controls

Familiarity and practical experience with EPA and NYSDEC (RCRA and TSCA) regulations

Specific experience with industrial hazardous wastes is preferred

Knowledge and experience with Department of Transportation regulations is preferred

Radiological and environmental D&D experience is preferred

US Citizenship is required (no dual citizenship)

Prior Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience is preferred

Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Level L security clearance is mandatory; current clearance is preferred

Ability to obtain and maintain radiological qualifications
