The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support for all aspects of connectivity between endpoints utilizing MTA's integrated LAN/WAN network environment.

Level 1
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot network and SAN solutions supporting critical business functions and customer facing services.
  • Work with other IT technical resources to support all network related technical problems and services.
  • Support satellite locations in a timely and effective manner during the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all network related technologies.
  • Ensure all required system documentation and record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling IT assets are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new connectivity products and technologies.

Level 2

Same as level 1 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot complex network and SAN solutions supporting critical business functions and customer facing services.
  • Evaluate connectivity requests and requirements and recommend effective technological solutions.
  • Guide less senior technicians and staff in the performance of their tasks.

Level 3

Same as level 2 with the following additional 2 responsibilities:
  • Participate in the evaluation of new products and technologies.
  • Design and engineer solutions and standards to be applied within the section.

Level 4

Same as level 3 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Install and oversee the configuration and troubleshooting of complex network and SAN solutions supporting critical business functions and customer facing services.
  • Ensure all departmental record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling network assets and call center statistical reporting are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of tasks associated with network technology related projects.

Level 5

Same as level 4 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Evaluate user requests and requirements and recommend effective technological solutions.
  • Direct the design and engineering of solutions for projects to be implemented within the section.
  • Lead the planning and coordination of tasks and activities in support of network related projects and initiatives

Level 1
  • Basic knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Basic working knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues both remotely and on-site using standard MTA tools and techniques.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technology.
  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals and documentation such that supported equipment and software can be maintained with minimal training.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong people skills.
  • Must be able to move and lift up to 25 lbs. of equipment such as switches, routers, UPS, laptops, firewalls, etc.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Level 2

Same as level 1 with the following additional qualifications:
  • Knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Working knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols.
  • Ability to provide technical solutions to meet business unit requirements.
  • Ability to provide technical direction to less senior staff members.

Level 3

Same as level 2 with the following additional qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols and use of protocol analysis tools for data packet inspection.
  • Ability to provide in-depth technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Ability to design and engineer complex solutions incorporating standards and industry best practice to enhance and expand the functionality of the Corporate Data Network incorporating fault tolerance, resiliency and scalability.
  • Knowledge of implementing F5 application load balancing.
  • Knowledge of implementing Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC).

Level 4

Same as level 3 with the following additional qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols and use of protocol analysis tools for data packet inspection.
  • Ability to plan activities and provide advanced technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Ability to design and engineer complex solutions incorporating standards and industry best practice to enhance and expand the functionality of the Corporate Data Network incorporating fault tolerance, resiliency and scalability.
  • Ability to formulate a plan, define tasks, and coordinate activity required to successfully execute network technology related projects.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot OSPF routing.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot BGP routing.
  • Working knowledge on configuring and troubleshooting of F5 application load balancers.
  • Working knowledge on Cisco IOS-XE, IOS-XR, and NX-OS.

Level 5

Same as level 4 with the following additional qualifications:
  • Must demonstrate excellent knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.

Level 1
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 1 years' experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
  • Must possess a basic knowledge, familiarity and experience with maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.

Level 2
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 5 years' experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years' experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.

Level 3
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 7 years' experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.

Level 4
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 10 years' experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.

Level 5
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 12 years' experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.

This is a resume based position in the collective bargaining unit represented by the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and will be governed by the terms of the associated TCU collective bargaining agreement for IT employees. As such, candidates selected for this position will be represented by TCU and be on MTA payroll. In addition, candidates selected may be required to work at any MTA Agency location.
