Exercises a high degree of skill, judgment, and an understanding of the principles and methodology of a technical field. Also provides basic diagnostic testing and imaging. An Ophthalmology Tech III working with a physician will be spending most of the time working with patients and supporting physicians as indicated below.SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:NoneMACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED INCLUDE:Sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Visual acuity projector, Lensometer, Automated refractor, Pupillometer (at refractive center), Tonopen, Color plates (HRR & Ishihara), HVF machine, Corneal topographer (Orbscan), Pachymeter, PAM machine, Laser interferometer machine, BAT (Brightness Acuity Tester).TYPICAL DUTIES:

Gathers necessary information for the physician. initial patient screening work up and assessment and performs certain diagnostic testing required to properly care for the patient in accordance with any eye related problems and the sub-specialty they may be working in.

Obtains, perfom1s or checks: ocular history, vital signs, visual acuity, neutralize glasses, automated refractions, pupillary exams, confrontational fields, ocular motility, intraocular pressure.

Performs diagnostic testing including: Basic colorvision screening using Ihihara or HRR plates. Automated visual field testing, Humphrey Visual Field. Corneal topographies for corneal measurements associated with contact lens fittings, corneal disease or surgical management on the orbscan. Uses a pachymeter to measure corneal thickness. Possesses basic contact lens knowledge and the ability to insert and remove contacts lenses or teach a patient insertion and removal techniques and contact lens care. Performs specialized visual acuity testing including a potential acuity meter (PAM), laser interferometry (LI) and brightness acuity tester (BAT ).

Performs clinical-cleric al office duties including: scheduling, request forms. printing up results, ordering contact lenses, and related administrative activities deemed necessary by the department. Stocks rooms according to practice needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

CPR or obtain CPR certification: ocular anatomy and physiology, basic tonometry, ophthalmic equipment maintenance and simple repairs. Understands ocular injuries and urgent care.

Possesses basic ocular pharmacology knowledge of drops and medications used for eye examinations. Identifies the purpose of these commonly used medications including proper administration. dosage. durations, common side effects, and know hospital policy about shelf life of these medications

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma plus training/coursework in optometry, ophthalmology or related field; or

High school diplo ma plus 2 years of closely related clinical experience; or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
