The Multi-Skill Technician is an integral part of the surgical team working to facilitate the safe and effective preparation of patients undergoing invasive surgical procedures. The primary responsibilities of the position are to collect patient data and perform assigned diagnostic and screening tests. The Multi-Skill Technician, along with other members of the perioperative team, utilizes resources in a cost effective manner in an environment that promotes continuous quality improvement. Education/Experience Requirements:

This position requires a minimum education of a high school diploma, or the equivalent.

One (1) year of previous experience in a medically related setting with knowledge of medical terminology is desired. Knowledge of surgical procedure terminology is preferred.

The incumbent must possess highly developed skills in customer service, communication, organization, and computer literacy.

Responsibilities:

The Multi-Skill Technician sets a positive tone for the surgical experience as the first contact with a surgical services team member.

The preoperative patients and families are greeted in a courteous and respectful manner.

Patients are correctly identified using two patient identifiers including name, date of birth, and/or medical record number.

The Multi-Skill Technician demonstrates knowledge of the unique physical and psychological needs of patients across the life span and provides explanations in age and culturally appropriate language.

Ensure patient’s comfort, safety and privacy are provided for.Maintains confidentiality of all personal health information.

Discusses patient and staff related issues only in a confidential manner and setting, and only with those who have the right/need to know.

Assists in maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of all data.

The Multi-Skill Technician will obtain and record objective patient data and record in the appropriate format.

Obtains and records patient height and weight, obtains and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure.

The Multi-Skill Technician will perform EKGs on the order of the physician.

After positioning for comfort and safety, EKG electrodes are applied appropriately and the EKG is performed in an efficient manner and transmitted electronically for interpretation.

The Multi-Skill Technician is proficient at venipuncture. Patients are correctly identified. Appropriate explanations are provided.

Blood samples are immediately labeled with the correct patient information.

Practices appropriate hand hygiene before and after all patient contacts.

Communicates unique patient needs to the Registered Nurse.

Supports and promotes a team approach between unit staff and interdepartmentally.

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, other activities in support of safe and efficient patient care are performed as assigned.

Adheres to policies and procedures as outlined in the Exposure Control Manual regarding: Bloodborne Pathogens, identifies and utilizes appropriate PPE, disposal of needles, syringes, and sharps, cleanup procedures for blood and body fluid spills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance. Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

Salary Range: $15.61-20.46 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
