Position Description/Duties: This interim position is part-time to cover the 5th & 6th language arts and social studies teacher for maternity leave. This teacher will work closely with the 5th and 6th grade math and science teacher, teaching the same group of 21 students. They would follow the NC State Curriculum Standards, use a writing and reading workshop model, and incorporate community meetings with a focus on social justice throughout and specifically in social studies instruction.

Performance Responsibilities:

Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

Ability to plan, coordinate, and continuously improve instruction.

Ability to analyze situations, determine possible options, and make appropriate decisions based on the data.

Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools.

Ability to manage instructional time and student behavior.

Ability to motivate students.

Ability to consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and the community to enhance the learning of students.

Ability to monitor student performance.

Ability to interact within the educational environment.

Ability to perform non-instructional duties as assigned.

Attend all Professional Development at the beginning of year and throughout year.

Participate in regular check-ins with Curriculum Coordinator.

Establish communication expectations with families; contribute to weekly newsletter.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience working with children

Subject area knowledge in teaching area(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

Current NC Licensure in subject area (Continuing License preferred)

Experience that aligns with educational philosophy/pedagogy of FDNSC

Knowledge/background in social justice teaching

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Experience in working with/promoting a diverse environment

Anticipated Hours: 11:30-3, as well as attending meetings and professional development as necessary (Subject to change in accordance with state and school updates and planning around Covid 19 circumstances.)

Start Date: August 6, 2020
