Vanguard is looking for talented individuals who are passionate about solving problems and utilizing cloud-based technology solutions. The IIS Architecture Office's mission is to design cloud foundational infrastructure that supports our Investment Only product teams who develop and deliver products for our Asset Management clients which include DC Plan Sponsors, DB Plan Sponsors, Nonprofits and other institutional intermediary investors. We are currently part of the USIT(US Intermediary Technology) division supporting and integrating intermediary technology stack for our Institutional Investor clients. The USIT organization as a whole support approximately 2.6T of the 5.2T AUM for Vanguard. Our current group of solutions architect support multiple legacy and cloud native applications including Vanguard Institutional Advisory Services (VIAS), Institutional Direct Digital Experience (IDDE), Asset Management Tools and a host of supporting infrastructure products. We're looking for an individual who can continually increase the capabilities, availability, scalability, security and reliability of our portfolio of products as we expand Vanguard's modernization efforts of the current Asset Management technology stack to the cloud. This is a "hands-on" position and requires an individual who can design and troubleshoot complex business and technical solutions across a variety of legacy and cloud platforms. A day in the life of a Solutions Architect within our group would include supporting AM product teams, leading or participating in development of a divisional roadmap and implementation strategies, and provide strategical thought leadership to our clients and divisional leadership teams. An applicant would be required to assist with the execution of the enterprise vision, strategic direction, and business technology programs. A successful application would also be able to persuade and influence Business and Information Technology senior leaders on the architectural direction and benefits of enterprise and divisional business technology solutions with a focus on business outcomes and delivering business value.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides the architectural leadership in shaping strategic, business technology projects, with an emphasis on application architecture. Utilizes domain knowledge and application portfolio knowledge to play a key role in defining the future state of large, business technology programs.

2. Utilizes a broad and deep understanding of the competitive landscape and corporate and business unit strategies to provide context for architectural decision making.

3. Within area of responsibility, continuously pursues strong knowledge of business technology solutions and maintains understanding of applicable technologies, tools, and services:
  • Establishes working relationships with appropriate business technology solution providers (e.g., Salesforce, Charles River, Reuters, etc.).
  • Leverages knowledge capital available through subscription research services that target business technology solutions (e.g., Forrester on Digital Business, Cutter on investment management, etc.).
  • Leverages the Internet and trade periodicals that focus on the contemporary, competitive, business technology issues within the financial industry.
  • Attends financial industry conferences and engages in associated activities (e.g., conducting presentations, leading workshops, etc.).

4. Defines reference and implementation application architectures.

5. Produces technology roadmaps in support of SI's application portfolio vision and strategy.

6. Monitors application implementation activity to ensure architecture and design principles are upheld.

7. Ensures application implementation solutions support the business objectives (asset gathering, cost optimization, client loyalty improvement), as appropriate.

8. Participates in governance team discussions and provides a strong voice on critical decisions.

9. Establishes relationships with senior IT and Business leaders for the purpose of advancing proposed application architecture solutions.

10. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years relevant work experience.
