Unique opportunity to help build a new technology business within Vanguard!

The US Intermediary Technology team is hiring a Senior Solutions Consultant (open to PA and NC) responsible for supporting a new SaaS product targeting Financial Advisors in the Retirement Planning space. This crew member would join the product leadership team (sitting in IT and facing the business) on our journey to take the product to market, focusing on providing Retirement Planning capabilities to advisors. We operate in a "Startup-like" environment, with a strong focus on culture and empowerment to achieve a bold outcome!

Responsibilities of the role include partnering with the Product Manager, UX Designer, and Solutions Architect to deliver a multi-quarter product roadmap that is ready for our 7 Scrum teams to decompose. Solutions Consultants take technology work from the "Discovery" phase (driving clarity with business and partner teams) and through to the "Planning" phase where ambiguity is removed, and product Scrum teams are able to plan Implementation.

The ideal candidate would have a good mix of (1) business acumen , (2) technical acumen, and (3) product development acumen required to plan a strategic roadmap across 6+ delivery teams, while working with a Product Manager, one other Solutions Consultant and Solutions Architect.

Business Acumen (either direct experience or ability to quickly ramp up):
  • Market knowledge of the "Financial Planning Software" landscape for Financial Advisors
  • Working knowledge of CFA principles such as Portfolio Analytics, Portfolio Construction
  • FinTech/Advice Tech industry knowledge

Technical Acumen:
  • Understanding of the full technology stack for modern applications (APIs, Cloud, Integration, Data & Analytics)
  • Ability to apply to turn business problems and ideas into technical solutions

Product Development:
  • Interest/experience in Product Management: Product/market fit, User Experience strategy and methodology
  • Interest/experience in supporting functions for products: Sales, Marketing, Business Operations, Risk
  • Ability to grasp multi-faceted business strategy and align decisions to OKRs
  • Ability to think through risk and manage stakeholders expectations

Core Responsibilities

  • Builds productive working relationships with internal clients, team members, senior management, project teams, and IT partners to ensure recommendations and priorities are understood by all impacted parties. Leverages influencing and negotiation skills to champion an optimal solution. Acts as an advocate for change, overcoming resistance by clearly articulating its benefits and promoting acceptance and usage. Ensures IT and Business teams understand proposed enhancements by continually reviewing approved technology capabilities, business solutions, and estimates. Serves as a change agent for IT and the Business to introduce new technologies and processes to shape the business strategy.
  • Translates business problems into strategic and cost-effective solution alternatives, along with recommendations, IT delivery estimates, delivery strategy, and cost benefits to solve business problems. Leverages broad IT knowledge to research emerging technologies and applies these to business problems. Creates blueprint capabilities for software, middleware and hardware deliverables. Ensures all deliverables comply with IT policies and procedures.
  • Partners with business and IT leaders to align business initiatives, priorities, and schedules based on strategic business and IT plans; Collaborates with IT and business to plan and initiate required activities by leveraging research, design thinking, Lean Consulting engagement, System Architecture evolutions, and innovations. Maintains current knowledge of IT development methodologies, architecture and related standards. Advocates and ensures usage of new standards as part of recommended solutions. Is involved in active consultations with technology partners (Solutions Architects Tech Leads, IT Delivery Managers) related to emerging technology and implementation strategies.
  • Influence the broad organization to gain maturity in product centric and portfolio planning, IT and value metrics, measurement of metrics aligned to product, owner alignment, capability oriented thinking etc. by leveraging knowledge of existing technology solutions and options that are already provided to our clients and the research that needs to be done to find new options.
  • Owns and manages a capability landscape for one or more lines of business and its product owners as the business and the industry evolves. Facilitates collaborative discussions to define experimentation, execution strategies, cost, and resource requirements. Develops deep knowledge of the business area(s) supported and assist the business in driving out their 35 year technology plan. Develops broad and deep understanding of the competitive landscape, corporate business unit strategies, and vendor products available in the marketplace to provide context for decision-making. Provides expert IT project management to create world-class strategies for a wide range of business and IT goals by leading program-level initiatives. Defines complex problems expertly, using research (market, competitive, and consultant), Design Thinking, Lean techniques, System Architecture guidelines, and other techniques as necessary.
  • Maintains current knowledge of IT development methodology, architecture, and technical related standards. Advocates and ensures usage of new standards and future state architecture by team members and project solutions.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree required. Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum eight years technology industry/field experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile/Lean software development principals and the application of such.
  • General knowledge of one or more of the following:
• Networks • Operating Systems • Data Models • Applications
  • Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Exceptional conceptual, analysis, and problem solving skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational and negotiation skills.
  • Broad knowledge of the financial services industry and FinTech industry.
  • Proven experience in using data (both quantitative and qualitative) analysis techniques to inform recommendations.
  • Proven ability to lead a team and program level initiatives to success.
  • Proven ability to adapt quickly, learn new things (business areas), evaluate issues, identify and validate problems areas, negotiate scope changes.
