Position Name:Clinical Lab Assistant Locations:Charlotte,NC 28262 Duration: 13 Weeks Day Shift: 6:30PM 7 AM, 40 Hrs/week Essential Functions:

  • Perform and report laboratory testing and functions supportive to the laboratory under appropriate supervision as directed by the supervisor.
  • Utilize laboratory and/or hospital computer systems to record receipt of accession process specimens.
  • Stocking and unpacking supplies received in department.
  • Identify all specimens using two (2) patient identifiers according to policy.
  • Direct the distribution of specimens to other laboratory sections as needed.
  • Report to supervision any problems which may adversely affect his/her ability to perform duties.
  • Report to supervision any problems that might adversely affect the operation of the department.
  • Consult with supervision or in the absence of supervision a registered medical technologist if unsure of any technical detail or procedure.
  • Give out lab results by phone. Answering phone and paging.
  • Use pneumatic tube according to policies and procedures.
  • Dispose and maintain specimens according to laboratory policy.
  • Maintain CHS core values and mission.
Skills:
  • Ability to understand instructions read and make judgments - Required
  • Certification as laboratory assistant phlebotomist or medical assistant - Highly desired
  • Interest in laboratory functions, willingness, and ability to learn - Highly desired
  • Moderate knowledge of medical terminology and computer applications - Required
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of infectious disease protocols practices and prevention - Required
Physical Requirements:
  • Works in busy environment with moderate lifting pulling pushing and frequently carrying up to 25 pounds and infrequently more than 25 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequent walking standing stooping and reaching.
  • Use of computer for long periods of time. Exposure to chemicals pathogens and patient blood and body fluids.
  • Some latex exposure may be expected.
  • Low doses of constantly monitored radioactivity may occur.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
