There are seven major functions within the Tax Department. 1) Tax and Trade Policy; 2) International Tax and Transfer Pricing; 3) Tax Reporting 4) Tax Planning and Tax Controversies; 5) Indirect Tax; 6) Tax Litigation and 7) Tax and Trade Process Technology.We are seeking an experienced compliance professional to support Microsoft’s growing Worldwide Tax and Trade Controllership team. Reporting directly to the Worldwide Tax and Trade Controller, you will be responsible for both monitoring and enhancing multiple internal compliance programs, and you will help develop (control design), implement, and maintain policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure the company adheres to the requirements of all relevant Tax and Trade laws and regulations, industry standards, risk management practices, and company values. You will ensure ongoing compliance with direct tax SOX reporting, international tax compliance reviews, indirect tax process analysis, trade screening, customs and export regulations compliance, and global privacy and data security frameworks - among other areas. This role will provide for opportunities to directly support and advise Tax and Trade, Finance, operations, marketing, legal, and technology business partners in the evaluation and development of effective compliance internal controls, monitoring, testing, issues management, program governance, and process improvements. A successful candidate should have at least 8-10 years’ experience working in a compliance role and must have outstanding communication skills, anticipate and deliver on the needs of a fast-paced and innovative business, and manage a wide range of projects.ResponsibilitiesJob Description and Specific ResponsibilitiesEnable the ongoing implementation of an effective compliance program.

Monitor adherence to internal controls and identify areas for improvement.

Assist with meeting ongoing compliance obligations (Tax and Trade functional areas) with reporting and record keeping requirements.

Educate and train employees on regulations and industry practices.

Address employee concerns or questions on compliance and work with subject matter experts to develop guidelines to cover common questions.

Keep abreast of internal standards and business goals as well as external requirements.

Proactively review processes, formalize practices, and documents to identify weaknesses.

Monitor testing programs to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of compliance controls; develop periodic reporting on test results.

Develop company-wide compliance metrics and utilize data to support testing efforts and risk assessment.

Collaborate regularly with counterparts in the Legal, Regulatory Affairs, and Government Affairs

Helps drive efficiencies for trade processes by monitoring feedback (e.g., from internal controllership), identifying risk areas, and taking corrective action in partnership with management

QualificationsRequired/Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 4+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience in an export compliance function

OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 3+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience

OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 8+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience

OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 6+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience

OR equivalent experience.

Certification with ECTI (similar export certification program) or equivalent

OR in-country professional trade certifications or licenses.

Compliance: Prefer strong experience in implementing compliance programs across a range of jurisdictions and monitoring the program on an ongoing basis to ensure that it is effective and tailored to a company’s business lines and growth.

Governance: Prefer significant experience with initiating, implementing and maintaining written policies and written procedures, testing, and risk assessments.

Monitoring: Prefer experience in driving compliance and operational controls applicable to tax reporting, economic sanctions, privacy, code of conduct, US and international export/import laws and regulations, insider trading and records management.

Collaborative: Prefer an understanding of how to evaluate risk management controls, internal control processes, as well as experience overseeing internal and external audits.

Stakeholder Engagement: Prefer excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to resolve conflict and difficult issues in a professional, assertive and proactive manner.

Agility: Prefer ability and desire to learn new areas of compliance (e.g., tax and trade) and contribute in a fast-paced and growing organization.

Growth Mindset: A strong record of experimentation, learning from both successes and failures.
