By promoting new ways of building software, you'll optimize products and keep our client experience improving at a startup like pace. As a Software Engineering Operations Manager, your main task is to make sure your team members are engaged. It is your responsibility to help your team members with their development, both hard skills as well as soft ones. Help them exploit their strengths and manage their weaknesses. Ensuring they are properly equipped to perform the job the best they can, while eliminating impediments that stand in their way.

But wait, there's more, expertise is paramount. This is not a generic people management job, you're expected to be able to translate industry trends & developments, along with your peers, into strategy that your engineers can leverage on their teams. Further, you'll be expected to keep your technical skills sharp by, on a regular basis, pulling stories from a team's backlog and implementing them. And if that's not enough, you'll need to balance your technical strategies against the team's number one priority, which is delivering value.

CXD Channels, Capabilities and Platforms (CCP) is looking for an operations minded Software Engineering Manger to lead the CCP Operations team. The CCP Operations team exists to scale CCP Engineering by creating transparency and improving both the agile and technical maturity among the many CXD CCP product teams.

In this role you will:

This is an evolving role, but our initial thinking is that the key areas of focus will include:
  • Operational Metrics: gathering, reporting, trending, trailing/leading indicator identification
  • Impediment tracking and mitigation
  • Solutions for cross-cutting challenges and Enterprise initiative management
  • Talent Management: leading calibration sessions, diagnosing attrition trends, onboarding optimization
  • Portfolio Resourcing & Budget Management

Open to an individual contributor looking to make the transition into a people leadership role.

What it takes:
  • 3+ years of experience in hands-on project management
  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline
  • Hands-on experience in either Web development or Mobile development
  • 5+ years of experience as a software developer
  • Experience leading a high-functioning, highly agile team of engineers that delivers scalable and responsive web-based cloud solutions.
  • Proven experience delivering projects from start to finish.
  • Effectively liaises across departments to accomplish tasks and projects.
  • Ability to understand complex distributed systems.
  • Ability to work independently, lead own time, priorities, and resources to achieve goals.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Innate desire to learn and grow, and ability to coach engineers to do the same through feedback, instruction, and encouragement.
  • Experience with people management a plus
