Responsibility

1. Design new or improve existing machines or components that operate independently or integrate with other machines in producing food products.60-70

2. Set up initial technical record tracking documentation for each machine designed.3-5

3. Establish and maintain project plans to meet time and cost objectives. This includes supervision of department coworkers, contract engineering, or drafting resources as required.15-20

4. Compute or check calculations required to determine the correct system and component sizing and provide accurate figures for cost estimating purposes. Use of finite element analysis techniques (FIA), linkage analysis techniques, statistical mechanics, and similar tools for solid structures, compressible fluids, and combustion energy sources will be expected.5-8

5. Maintain mechanical design manual reference information.3-5

6. Ascertain specifications of purchased components to be used. 7. Travel as required to meet the above functions in various company, vendor, and customer locations. Usually averages 1 or 2 trips per month with average stay of 2 or 3 days per trip.3-5

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 1. Design of machines and components to fit in larger operating systems. 2. Drafting experience using tolerance techniques, geometric dimensioning and checking as required for sheet metal fabrication, welding, and machining work. 3. Field experience in trouble shooting machinery, analyzing failures, etc. 4. Demonstrated ability and results in value analysis. 5. BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent directly related experience. 6. Previous experience in working successfully with customers and vendors. 7. Possess good verbal and written communication skills. 8. Able to read, and present technical and marketing information. 11. Familiar with metrics, ISO standards, etc. 12. Food processing background. 13. Familiarity with safety, product liability, and injury investigation. 14. Eight or more years successful and innovative design experience. 15. Knowledge of and at least some basic skill in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor is required. 16. Working knowledge of State, Federal, and associated standards such as ANSI, OSHA, FM, NFPA, CE etc. 17. Mechanical and electrical aptitude.
