Greenhouse Assistant - Part Time 30hr+ hours/week.Contractor - Sat & Sun (2-4 hours per day) Greenhouse plant watering required.M-F schedule flexible. Min 30 hrs per week with potential for 40 hrs. Description: Planting trials following protocols. (Pot size, type of soil, seed depth etc.)Plant maintenance (pruning, trimming, thinning etc.)Watering plants every day (summer twice a day as required, morning/evening)Weekend watering (every weekend)Sweep floors (keep Bays clean)Power wash moldy areaKeep debris off tables and floorsSquidge standing waterBrush off swamp cooling padsClean off dead leaves between or during trialsChecking/Maintaining/Re-fill fertilizer Assisting Biologist Applying Crop Protection Products:Bring plants to the spray roomClean out after sprayingWash dishesWipe down counters (Alcohol wipes)Wipe down sprayer (409 or virus cleaner provided by site cleaning services)Change the liner in the mixing hoodMake sure there is a bag in the red trash can Soil/Plant Prep Room / High Density storageKeeping area neat, clean, and tidy.Replenishing planting trays and potsReplenish Potting soilAssist with soil sieving and pot fillingREQUIREMENTSGreenhouse cleaning (sweeping, power washing, upkeep)Lab cleaning (sweeping, washing dishes, general cleaning)Plant watering/transplanting/pruning/fertilizingWeekend watering (Sat and Sun)Assisting Greenhouse ResearchersExperience working and taking care of plants. Greenhouse preferred.High School Grad required or higher education optionalMin 30 hrs per week. Saturday and Sunday required for plant watering 3-4 hrs per dayMonday-Friday work schedule flexibleHard worker, self-motivated, detail oriented and follows directionsMust possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Must have or be willing to get a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License.Need to lift 50 lbs. and work in hot, humid, or cool, damp conditions as required for greenhouse or field activities.Must have good abilities to communicate with others and be able to work both independently and in teams.
