What You'll DoAs a Sr. Product Engineer- Plastics, you'll be part of our Global Tool & Storage team located in Huntersville, NC. You'll get to: Be responsible for implementing/ qualifying and problem solving New product hand tools and storage designs, development activities, and provide on- site manufacturing support of hand tools products and component ideas and concepts that will meet our manufacturing, safety, quality, compliance, cost and marketing objectives. Must estimate development costs and monitor assigned projects through all phases of development. Perform sampling, product testing and 2d/3d/PCN, PDM, support, setup and perform test plans. Prepare robust design/ tooling/process solutions, costs, technical data, product documentation related to our GTAS product lines.

Specifically, you will:
  • Collaborate, communicate and action with multiple product engineering business ranging from storage solutions, cutting and clamping tools, measuring and layout tools both within the U.S. along with global design centers and factories and suppliers.
  • Directly support BU's implementing on-site new product designs, PPAP qualifications, assembly. and problem solving at both SBD factories and regional suppliers with a premier focus on plastics along with overall product assembly and DFMA.
  • Lead/ implement resin, component, and assembly qualification/ PPAP activities
  • Drive product development schedules utilizing MS project, in coordination with PMO and Engineering Teams
  • Work in coordination with PMO, Product Management, Operations and Customer Base teams to facilitate solutions.
  • Support modifying 3D Models in CAD (Creo/Pro-E), for DTV, DFMA in coordination with product engineering teams
  • Develop, document, and maintain project tasks and schedules and execute project tasks as required.
  • Specify performance testing parameters, execute tests and document compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Improve existing products using analytical techniques to better meet customer requirements. Investigate cost reduction opportunities within manufacturing facility and optimize product designs to make improvements in manufacturing processes.
  • Integral to planning capacity expansion in molding and assembly.
  • Provide direct on-site leadership of brainstorming productivity, lean, problem solving, DTV activities.
  • Optimize component designs, tooling designs and injection machine parameters by using state of the art tools like mold flow analysis.
  • Early on cooperation with Engineering / Team on Materials and component design.
  • Familiar with process optimization processes like Scientific molding? (Maybe too much, but nice to have)
  • Review & approve Tooling designs before kickoff

  • Collaboration and communications with global technical teams, both product and Mfg.
  • Foundational knowledge of plastic resins, product designs, injection tooling & Mfg./processing
  • Problem solving, failure analysis/FEA, DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE
  • Global networking with design centers, suppliers, factories, materials
  • Quality systems, PPAP
  • On-site hands-on manufacturing and operations experience
  • 3-D CAD/CAE -Creo, SolidWorks
  • Moldflow Analysis experience
  • Experience with plastic molding and processes preferred including injection, MIM, blow-molding, and high-pressure injection molding.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation methods (bills of materials, routings and tool lists, etc.)
  • Experience with processes including FDM, SLA, CNC and a plurality of machining processes.
  • B.S. Mechanical / Materials Engineering Required
  • M.S. Engineering Related Field Preferred
Qualifications:
  • Possess well-developed interpersonal, communication, and project management skills
  • Excellent technical and mfg. problem solving skills.
  • 2d/3d/Windchill systems and processes
  • Proficiency with MS Office software, including MS Project and Excel
  • Self-motived, hands on individual with a high degree of creativity and initiative with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Moldflow Analysis experience
  • Familiar with Product testing and qualification process
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment where a moderate volume of mechanical components are made/used and assembled is essential.
  • Experience with injection molding is required, in addition die casting and fabrication methods are preferred.
  • Think creatively to develop ideas that can be protected by patents
  • Ability to work on and coordinate multiple, global projects
  • Ability to work in a global, multi-functional team environment
  • Familiarity with laboratory technique and practices
  • Familiarity with financial models to estimate cost impact and investment plans for the new materials
