Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description

• Develop and maintain platform software/firmware (C/C)
• Develop and support embedded systemarchitecture involving both hardware and software.
• Support and develop higher level software (C#, Visual Studio .NET, etc.) to aid in the troubleshooting and manufacturing of embedded systems.
• Support Remodel & Design within engineering including advanced innovation projects and new product development activities.
• Collaborate across multiple disciplines to negotiate performance, cost, and other requirements.
• Ensure product designs perform as intended, are reliable, andare safe for manufacturing and the end user.
• Develop manufacturing test programs for production line testing as well as for troubleshooting by manufacturing, engineering, and field service.
• Support and encourage best practices relative to coding standards, firmware release processes, software testing, functional validation, etc.
• Oversee the appropriate use of object oriented design and proficiency developing with embedded real time operating systems.
• Collaborate on a cross-functional team spanning multiple design disciplines (electrical, mechanical, software) and other departments (marketing, quality, reliability, manufacturing).
• Provide firmware related technical assistance to all productengineering customers, both internal and external.
• Continuously improve the processes, skills, team environmentand tools necessary to bring product to the market.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering is required; a Master's degree in Computer Science is a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in firmware development in a New Product Development role is required.
• Experience troubleshooting software problems that span engineering disciplines and geographic locations.
• Proficient in various programming languages and software development tools and debuggers with a readiness to learn new tools as needed (e.g. Code Composer, Visual Studio, etc.)
• Possess an understanding of circuit interfaces (e.g. stepper motors, sensors, transducers), electrical communication standards (e.g. SPI, UART, I2C), wireless standards (e.g. Wifi, Bluetooth, Zigbee), power management (e.g. sleep modes, efficient programming), microcontrollers (e.g. peripherals, bootloaders, reprogramming), and user interface design principals.
• Motivated self-starter comfortable working on an agile development team and proactively advancing the frontier of progress.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) as well as interpersonalskills with the ability to effectively communicate to all levels within anorganization.
