Our client, a worldwide Insurance Group that offers global insurance and risk management solutions, is seeking a Web/WordPress Developer

Job Summary:

The Web/WordPress Developer works closely with the Branding Services and Employee Communications team while maintaining and extending the functionality of both the corporate WordPress multisite and the global WordPress intranet. This is a technical position that incorporates modifying templates, styles, functionality and plugins on production, staging and development environments as well as developing functional, accessible, secure mobile-friendly solutions that meet evolving business need. This position requires the skills to develop user-centered functionality for new projects as well as refining or further customizing existing backend code.

We work in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment so the ability to prioritize and work well under pressure is crucial. Must be able to work independently yet collaboratively with design and content strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Consistently create and deliver well-designed, tested code using best practices for website development, including responsive site design and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Code custom WordPress features in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3 and work on previously developed custom features and themes.
  • Maintain and manage several WordPress websites, serving as the technical liaison to a managed WordPress host.
  • Maintain and manage our global employee intranet in Azure and AWS.
  • Write secure code and respond quickly to security issues that may arise.
  • Comfortable working in staging and live environments.
  • Translate communication or design requests into high-quality and high-performing features.
  • Oversee troubleshooting, QA and technical issues on department-managed websites.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business requirements and can turn a request for desired functionality into a smart solution that is helpful to users.
  • Collaborate with designers to match visual intent and create intuitive user experiences.
  • Proactively recognize problems and recommend and develop creative solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Maintain and update an existing UI library.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of existing WordPress functions.
  • Strong coding experience in web and application development using PHP, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, required.
  • Must be able to understand how CSS changes impact style across platforms and browsers.
  • Can convert wireframes and comprehensive designs into code.
  • Previous experience customizing WordPress to support specific functionality.
  • Create functionality written to conform to WordPress coding standards.
  • Understanding of PHP back-end development.
  • Azure ASE/MySQL familiarity (for the purposes of maintaining our intranet).
  • Knowledge of WCAG criteria. Familiarity with technical SEO a plus.
  • Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML).
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools.
  • Core Wordpress/Web developer, and also can handle basic platform and hosting activities on LAMP, Azure/AWS, CDN like Cloudflare, WPEngine etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to articulate clearly and effectively over the phone, video and email.
  • Ability to work in a high-energy, collaborative, team-oriented environment. Must be a team player.
  • Effective time management. The ability to prioritize work, multitask and the initiative and drive to complete projects under stress while maintaining a positive attitude and a pleasant demeanor.

Education:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with responsive web development
  • BA/BS in design, engineering, CS, or other technical field, or equivalent experience
