Job Description

Job Summary:

This buyer is a key member of operations team and will report to the materials manager. The incumbent will be responsible for the accurate and timely procurement of production materials, supplies, and services using and maintaining various replenishment techniques to communicate requirements to suppliers. This individual will be responsible for effectively maintaining acceptable levels of inventory that meet production requirements as well as financial utilization goals. The role is responsible for negotiating optimum arrangements for pricing, delivery, and total cost of ownership. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast paced team environment with ability to multitask, to maintain great attention to detail, and to be customer focused.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Process purchase orders for required components and services in compliance with ITWauthorization levels including:

  • Purchase inventory as documented on bill of materials from new or establishedsuppliers.
  • Expedite replenishment orders and deliveries as needed to meet productionrequirements.
  • Send out RFQ to suitable suppliers for new or existing parts.

Maintain effective inventory levels to achieve month on hand (MOH), on-time delivery,and customer satisfaction. Utilize appropriate material control techniques to maximizematerial availability and minimize inventory.

  • Review Kanban purchase quantities, reorder points, and supplier lead times to ensure appropriate quantities are purchased.
  • Review aged inventory reports to minimize slow moving or obsolete inventory.
  • Maintain or establish effective visual materials replenishment triggers.
  • Maintain or establish MRD finished good accessory inventory levels.

Communicate and consult with Engineering and Operations to identify material problems or information to assure production flow, and/or planning of materials. Attend and participate in weekly production meetings.

Coordinate supplier relationships. Source and assess vendor’s manufacturing capabilities to ensure all suppliers carry the highest level of ethical business practices and social responsibility.

Negotiate with suppliers on price, quality, and service levels.

Identify and implement product standard cost reductions.

Prepare and review monthly vendor performance and with key vendors.

Communicate daily with production on part orders that will not meet the production demands. Track on-time delivery of shipments and inquires with suppliers for late deliveries. Confirm agreed upon delivery dates are accurate in ERP (Epicor) system.

Review business systems daily as required (open purchase orders, accounting problems, rejected materials, etc.).

Handle returns/replacements of nonconforming materials.

Plan and provide procedures for disposal of surplus materials and scrap handling.

Examine prototype parts before releasing purchase order to ensure quality and sends RFQ’s as needed.

Support site compliance activities, including the collection of supplier compliance information.

Be a self-starter that can work extended hours as required to satisfy customer deadlines.

Visit suppliers as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, orrelated field
  • 3-5 years experience in materials procurement role supporting manufacturing or warehouse operations
  • Solid understanding of Supply Chain and Forecasting/Planning Technologies
  • Preference for equipment manufacturing experience
  • Preference for professional affiliation or certification (i.e. APCIS, NAPM, etc)

Qualifications and Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of KanBan, Vendor Managed Inventory, demand flow, and supply agreements
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and change management skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Accountability and commitment to work agenda and schedule
  • Desire and ability to advance in organization
  • Ability to lead effective meetings
  • Advanced PC skills including use of Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Basic mechanical or technical skills with preference for ability to read Blue prints.
