Northstar Handyman & Home Services, LLC is a licensed and insured home repair and remodeling company in Fargo. Are you a construction manager or skilled carpenter looking for an exciting new opportunity with room to grow? Do you feel like you've hit a dead end at your current employer? We want to hear from you! As a small, but growing, company, we are looking for those who want to grow with us! Some weeks you will do something different everyday, but then you might be on the same project for 3-4 weeks. Opportunities for profit sharing or commissions are possible. Individuals who are already Minnesota qualifying persons for a building contractor license will be given preference.
You must have your own tool belt and basic hand tools, and we will supply the rest. We will supply you with a van or truck to use for work.
Project Manager/Carpenter
Description: This person will be responsible for contacting new potential customers, performing basic to highly skilled home repairs, creating estimates, MTO’s, and coordinating with sub-contractors as needed. This is a dual estimator-carpenter foreman role, and the person in this roll will be expected to be on-site of their projects to see them through to completion. The ideal candidate will have experience as a new construction or remodel estimator and have a wide variety of skills in home construction or remodeling. This person will work directly with the owner to ensure that all sales goals and profit margins are met.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Estimating
a. Contact prospective new customers
b. Meet with prospective new customers to discuss their project
c. Obtain estimates from sub-contractors (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.)
d. Create MTO and project estimate
e. Follow up on sent estimates
f. Submits change orders as needed
g. Obtain necessary building permits
h. Coordinate inspections as needed
i. Additional duties as assigned
2) Building repairs
a. Contacts new customers about their home/commercial building repairs
b. Meets with homeowners/businessowners to perform their building repairs
c. Keep track of all time and materials used
d. Create and send invoices
e. Additional duties as assigned
3) Construction
a. Construct new decks and custom sheds
b. Demolition and reconstruction of framing
c. Installation of interior and exterior doors and windows
d. Installation of flooring
e. Drywall installation, taping, and texturing
f. Tile installation
g. Installation of new kitchen cabinets
h. Refinishing of kitchen cabinets
i. Installation of kitchen and bath appliances and hardware
j. Installation of trim including base, casement, and crown molding
k. Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Associates degree in construction or project management, or related field, with at least 5 years of experience in construction or home remodeling, at least two years of which in an estimating and project management role. Proficiency in AutoCad desired, but not necessary. Proficiency in construction estimating software is necessary. Thorough knowledge of building codes required. Skills in framing, drywall finishing, tiling, cabinet installation, door/window installation, and trim work are recommended.

High School Diploma or GED with at least 15 years’ experience in home construction or remodeling, and at least 5 years of experience in a foreman or estimating role. Proficiency in AutoCad desired, but not necessary. Proficiency in construction estimating software is necessary. Thorough knowledge of building codes required. Skills in framing, drywall finishing, tiling, cabinet installation, door/window installation, and trim work are recommended.
Pay: $20-28/hr, depending on experience, education, and licenses/credentials. Licensed master plumbers or electricians are eligible for pay incentives when performing licensed work.
