Hands-on Compassionate Caregiver Needed

Ohio, Cincinnati, 45201 Cincinnati USA
Apply Now

Who needs care: I'm a friend, nurse and advocate helping a vulnerable patient with spastic cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and a rare neurological disorder. He needs help getting up in the morning and some evenings. Patient is an independent adult with normal intelligence and brain impairment that leads to temporary episodes of severe age regression. He has a lot of difficulty in the mornings getting up and moving.

Care needed: Applicants must be very caring. This patient was badly hurt by a former caregiver. He has a rare brain disorder and needs a caregiver open to providing responsive childcare. Caregivers must be kind, loving, and willing to connect to patient. He uses an electric wheelchair and has lots of pain and spasticity because of his cerebral palsy. Spasms can be controlled through diet and medication. He needs to be supported, changed, and fed until his spasms decrease.

Services needed: He needs help with diaper changes, bathing, dressing, feeding, meal preparation, errands, shopping, light housekeeping and some limited mobility assistance. There is no lifting. His care involves substantial physical support until his spasticity decreases. His spasticity is the most significant barrier to self-care. This patient has a very friendly professionally trained service dog. Applicants must not be afraid of dogs and willing to assist with dog care.

Days and hours needed: Assistance needed from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m, 2 - 3 days per week. Days are flexible and can be arranged around the caregiver’s schedule. MUST be available by 8 a.m. May include some evenings.

Pay: $15-$25 per hour depending on experience, background and interview. Payment is made electronically to caregiver by patient by caregiver.

Application Requirements: Applicants must respond by email. You will receive a patient profile with 2 fact sheets. Applicants must review the patient profile and fact sheets before applying and respond with explaining why they are interested in working with this patient and their interest and commitment to providing responsive childcare to an adult with a neuro-cognitive impairment. Applicants must complete an application, follow written instructions, and interview with this patient. Training, information and support is provided by his nurse. This is NOT a difficult job or person to work with. It does require caregiver compassion and care for someone with severe spasticity, physical pain, and who is extremely vulnerable.
